Girl hits cyclist then jokes about it on Twitter.

You cannot "press charges", that's a myth. You can support a prosecution, but its not up to you to decide who gets charged or arrested. Most prosecutions will struggle without the victims support in terms of a statement, but some offences can be dealt with without the support of the victim.

Sometimes, like above, you're input and opinion will be asked for in terms of disposal methods, but the final decision still rests with police/cps.

Domestic violence is a good example, 9 times out of 10, the victim won't assist the police (even after ringing up themselves), but it won't stop the offender being arrested, and possibly charged if other evidence is available.

The concept is still called "pressing charges" but what most people don't understand is that pressing charges is not the same as prosecution. And as you say, it is up to the CPS whether they decide to prosecute.

It's a term usually used by the public, but it has no place in uk law. I believe its an Americanism.

To be honest it sounds like she had a close call, but stupidly made up the fact she knocked him off his bike to make an ill-judged attempt to be "edgy".

I reckon he's full of it, he won't have been knocked off. If he had he would have gone to the police station. If I'd been knocked off a bike I'd be straight down the police station. I'd be absolutely fuming.

Stupid tweet, tried to be cool and it backfired. Idiot in the lycra vest is milking it.

Watched the interviews and the report of her radio interview.

Clearly she hit him and knew she had and didn't stop. She went home and then ranted and raved on twitter about it.

I assume there were other cyclists who can vouch that he got knocked off and thrown into the hedge.

She is just trying to cover up for her mistake now she has been suspended and hated on the internet.

The cyclist does not see the type of guy to make things up etc. I am sure if she had stopped and checked if he was okay and said sorry then this wouldn't have ever gone any further. Even if he was in her side of the road and the accident was his fault, you don't just drive off and leave the cyclist in the ditch and brag about it later.

My 2p

Can't believe how remorseless she is appearing in all these follow up interviews. You'd think that what people think of her on twitter is more important to her than potentially leaving someone for dead.

Is it just me who thought the victims(cyclist) statement in some of the articles seemed a tad far fetched? He looks like the type who would over exaggerate...

This is still my favourite statement in this thread :D
Do all blackies carry knives and all Muslims are terrorists?

Also let's consider that he had forgotten all about it until he knew the Police were looking for him.
