Which cover for my MK1 MX5?

Hey all.
I move house tomorrow.
The roof on my MX5 does not leak, but it is currently garaged and protected from the British weather.
The new house does not have a garage, so I need a cover.

I quick Google suggests that some types of covers are good and some bad.
Some talk about micro bubbles in the paint.
Some talk about breathable vs. non-breathable covers.
Some mention that on roof only covers the cables flap around and damage the paint.
The list goes on....

What sort should I get? :)

Thanks in advance.

For mine, I had a tailored 'Monsoon' cover from www.coveryourcar.co.uk. It was brilliant, did its job beautifully. I would highly recommend them.

I have read no end of horror stories of covers causing paint problems.
Not sure what to do.

What sort of cover do you recommend? This company sell various different covers suitable for different purposes.

A proper multi-layered, breathable cover with a soft inner lining won't cause paint problems unless you put it over a dirty car.

I went for the Monsoon cover which offered added protection throughout the winter. Have a look at the range and see which one suits your requirements. :)

Yeah I have too, a lot of paint blistering or kind of bubbling. Apparently it settles down after the cover is removed but I don't like the sound of that.

I guess the best overs are ones that don't touch the body. You use to be able to get them with a metal frame, a bit like a tent. I am sure they were part of the Carcoon range.

Serious money but cheaper than a roof or paint job.

I need to get a cover for my one over the winter months as my garage leaks like a sieve and is full of household stuff (chest freezer, tumble drier etc.) and it will be the Monsoon that I go for with the Stormforce upgrade.

Bit of a PITA as the previous owner threw in a Sahara indoor cover and a non fitted waterproof cover of the right size but as it isn't breathable I don't trust using the two together.

Carcoon would be way too big for my drive way and the local kids would probably think it was a bouncy castle.

Tonight I should be meeting the 'mazda mender' man who has helped me loads on the mx5 owners club forum so I will ask him. He also created the mazda menders forum.

The general feeling I get is that the best thing to do is leave ot outside, get a hard top and use my parents garage in the winter....

I won't bother covering my one in the spring, summer and autumn. If I was using it over the winter I'd buy a hard top and not bother covering it but my plan is to lay it up at the first road gritting of the year and leave it until April.

My rear screen is already quite stiff so I hope that covering it over the frosty months will squeeze another year out of the roof and also stop the drain holes getting blocked while I'm ignoring it until the sun comes out.

Mine lasted 3 harsh winters in the cold outside without any problems what so ever, I was working away a lot so didn't really drive it much, but I was surprised with how well it lasted. The only two precautions I took were to wait till the car was warm inside before I took the roof down in winter and I hosed it down every couple of weeks. I lived on a main road too.Cars a designed to be driven imo, they last better if they are!
