Nvidia's Geforce GTX 770 comes close to the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition

No Tomb Raider included on that list but you can bet your life savings the 7970 will be faster in that title.

Nvidia's Geforce GTX 770 scores four wins over the Radeon HD 7970 GHz but it has to be said that titles such as Deus Ex are far from the bleeding edge of games design at the moment. In more contemporary titles such as Battlefield 3, Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3, the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition card holds a marginal lead over Nvidia's latest Geforce GTX 770 card in the results we have seen.
What we have seen with these benchmarks is that Nvidia's Geforce GTX 770 will have to be priced close to AMD's Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition for it to have a fighting chance. However, gamers might be swayed by AMD's current ploy of bundling a number of games, which puts Nvidia's graphics card partners under some price pressure on the Geforce GTX 770.

This is just a mess, you'd bloody well hope a 770 beat a 7970 across the board, especially given the likely price difference there will be.

Even at the same price, AMD's got that games bundle and still more performance anyway. Roll on 20nm or AMD's refresh at least.

Just realised this is at 1600p so maybe the 770 is being held back a little by its 256bit bus.

Surely thats not right? Looks like a 7970Ghz v gtx680. Im sure the GTX770 must come out least equal to it.

It will be interesting to see what the official release price of the 770 is, if some of the rumours of near to £300 are true then that's a good deal I'd say - but I find this unlikely.

The 7970 ghz was about 10% faster than a gtx 680 overall. Obviously some games were different but as a rough ball park figure and with AMD's continued driver performance improvements 10% on average is about right. So its not that surprising to see the performance so close with the 9-10% performance improvement of the 770. Maybe at 1080p things will swing slightly in favour of the 770 because of the highly clocked core compared to the 7970 ghz default core speed.

Even more of a mess, this was one of the first things that jumped out at me when it became evident that the 780 was GK110 and the 770 GK104, there's going to be massive performance disparities between them in certain situations.

Rebranded 680 still struggling against the 7970, nothing new to see here lol.

All comes down to price of the 770, but the extra vram and free games on the 7970 will likely still make it a better deal than the 770..

The GTX 760 Ti is the most interesting Nvidia card from 7XX series, if might actually be decent value VS price..

The Videocardz benchmarks showed a similar theme. At 1080 the 770 was great but at 1600 its gains were cut in half.

Same problem with the 680's vs 7970's. At 1080p the 680 copes fine, yet even at 1440p the 680 starts to suffer let alone 1600p.

Well the hints from Gibbo is this is coming out at £300-350 & looks to be still slower than 7970ghz (which includes games). Would seem disappointing but not long to wait til find out properly.

Hoping this has a knock on effect to bring GTX 680 to sub £300 & GTX670 towards £220 mark (where they both should be)

Seen the price on a US site for $419, which equates to £332 after tax (roughly).

£330 ain't bad, I did say the other day it would need to come in around the £320 mark, though still feel the 760ti is the one to watch as an oc'd version will likely match a 770 as the 670 oc vs 680 was.

7970's just seem to absolutely shine at high res, the grid 2 benches Matt posted earlier show it even cutting the titans lead going from 1080 to 1600.

I didn't think it was badly priced at £330 and makes sense if it is competing with the 7970GE. No other way to look at the 770 other than a factory overclocked 680 (much like the 7970GE is) and ideal I guess for 1080P.

7970 or 780 (if you want the extra performance and don't mind paying for it) for the higher resolutions or even to boost frames at 1080P are good calls IMO.

760TI I guess will be competing with the 7950 and hopefully price competing as well.

No surprises there for struggling at high res through 2Gb/256 bus, £550+ if you want to play there in green in the heavy hitting titles.
