I have searched and surprised that I cannot see any threads about this? It's the follow up to Wargame: European Escalation.

Official site is here - http://www.wargame-ab.com/

Trailer for the aircraft (the main new feature) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRMH887q3Bo

If you own the original, you currently get a 25% discount pre-ordering through their main site or through Steam - http://store.steampowered.com/app/222750/?snr=1_7_15__13

So who has ordered it? I am buying it after pay day this week!

I'm not sure it's going to be that much different from the original to warrant an early purchase. Just IMO of course.

I pre-ordered.

Only had a chance to play a few rounds of the beta and loving it so far.
Yes it is very similar to the first but with air (obviously :) ) and a fair few tweaks to the engine and interface.

Some major points of note is when zooming out it groups your units together in a grid which makes it far easier to select a specific unit within a bunch.

Also in the beta you have to choose a nation rather than create a deck. I am not sure what will happen on release (ie if this will stay, or deck or both as options).
I actually like having to choose a nation rather than just mix the best from every nation

Is the resource model different to the first game? I gave up after a few missions as i had limited resources but the computer kept creating more units. In the end you'd run out and get destroyed. Ruined a great game for me.

Sorry mate, I didn't bother with the single player on WEE, I only play multi.
And the beta only includes multi so not sure anyone can answer you for sure yet.

The air mechanic really adds to it. The rest is finetuned. It is a brilliant game already from beta impressions.

You can create a deck if you didn't know. From the main menu. You can get bonuses by restricting it.

No the resource model is no different however I don't see why you were getting the problems you were. I would be happy to play some games on WEE to show you how to readjust to a more tactical gameplay mechanic rather than usual RTS technique which will never work in this game. I suspect you'd be fine if you used your units in a slightly different way.

Still skirmishing with the CPU and have to say, it does get pretty damn epic at times. Pitched battles, resupply under fire, air strikes and the occasional mis-placing of napalm rounds on friendlies (:o) all add to the chaos. I watched a replay of one of my matches and was just sucked in.

Deck creation is a nightmare, in a good way ;). Just a little tweak here, then another, then another...

Stability wise, that's rather more worrying. Initialling it was running in DX9 and just seemed to nuke the graphics card and make the fan run at 100% for no real reason. Then it would throw up all manner of 'access violations' and crash to desktop. After figuring out how to get it running in DX11 things seem "better".

The pure joy of catching an armoured and mechanised assault with 4 x A-10's is just a joy to behold. Also the old WEE hassle of unanswerable artillery is solved now you can get an F-117 to flatten their position.

Yeah artillery in this is not so annoying as it was in WEE. No one seems to build a stack of it and just sit back firing as although it can suppress it doesn't kill as easily as it used to.

I went mostly air and recon and my mate went for ground stuff exclusively. Working together it went well against others. The F117 is just crazy powerful, but I think they are going to nerf it.

The F117 can be taken down quickly if you see it as it has no real ECM - it's the case of having good recon out.

Yep that's pretty much the way we've been doing it - one scouting and air and the other holding the ground.

So tempted by this, just still dithering as I want to get Grid 2 as well :( Does anyone have any impressions of gameplay compared to EE? Also the 25% discount for owners of EE does that only apply during the preorder stage or is that always available?

Adding more jets and heli's is a nice touch but its certainly not a big change compared to WEE. Really like it though and they made it available for Linux, woo :)

I think it is only pre-order. But the game is a lot better imo. I can't speak for the campaign and I do think this is a game to play with people who you know and to have some agreed rules that can prevent people ruining the experience eg quitters (******** **** **** that they are).

The new deck system is pretty good and negates rush tactics. If you don't use the synergy between your units you will get slaughtered by any halfway decent player. I think that I spend half my time making the perfect deck to foil and opponent is a plus tbh.

I think the gameplay because of this has drastically improved. I've had most success rushing out as NATO grabbing objectives and forward areas with airborne troops - immediately reinforcing them and then slowing conceding ground to the pact forces. Stagnant defence doesn't cut it against airstrikes and artillery but a rolling defense with counterattacks makes for some really engaging and tense games.

I just like the fact that in 10v10 you and someone else could be holding a corner of the map and you think it's epic scale warfare and then you zoom out and there's massive battles going on all over the map! You think woohoo we held the corner only to see the left flank has fallen miles away.

Looking forward to the coop campaign to be honest. I feel they have taken war game EE and just tweaked it and made it better. Planes are great but are easily countered so not game ruining. As an example a guy tank rushed with loads of tanks and troops. I had 4x A10s ready and it was like Xmas! Was epic watching them swoop in firing missiles and the awesome gun sound as they strafe. I then tried it again when his team mate tried it but had some anti air and the A10s were roasted. You really have to micro aircraft so its well balanced in my view as they cost a lot and die very easily, but charge forward with tank spam watch out!

Damn... I only get paid on Tuesday and the 25% discount expires on the 1st of June :(

Ah well, I really enjoyed WEE so would happily fork out 29.99 for this 'sequel' tbh :)

Well just woke up - played from release last night till 05:00 this morning. Stunning game. It's a 10/10 for me.

For people from WEE you don't have command stars anymore - you get access to everything so you can fine tune your decks how you want them from the off.

Anything new on full release over beta?

Didn't get a chance to play last night. I have managed to talk all my friends into buying it.

Loving my Brit deck at the moment, and loving the SAS and marines :)

Main thing over the beta is the campaign I suppose. Online coop and offline versions.

The campaign is apparently dynamic so different each time. You seem to get play areas ranging in difficulty and the campaign generates itself.

Haven't tried it coop yet so not sure if you both command high level and actual battles.

Tempted to getting the orginal plus new expansion. Will I understand how to play the game if I jump straight onto expansion, is there a tutorial?
