this weekend ? no way - i may look again in afew months when i upgrade my GPU's, but even then i have a 2600k so ye not in a real hurry :), gpu's are 580 sli, and the 1.5gb RAM on them is annoying me way more then my 2600k ;)

would like to upgrade as the pc is over two years old now. Seems a bit pointless as running 2700k SB at 4.4mhz on auto settings.

The problem is I know I could use a bit more ram and a better motherboard, also the 6970 graphics could probably use a update, I would also like a new / different case.

Not sure if to just go with Haswell for the sake of it when I do upgrade

I've been holding off upgrading my Q6600 since about Christmas, so, yup upgrade time here :)

Already got the videocard, SSD's, PSU and case so it's basically waiting for the motherboard/CPU/Ram

I'm getting Haswell but I'm not actually upgrading - a brand new build (had Clevo laptop before). I hope we'll see some prety good prices on motherboards (especially Gigabyte & ROG Hero) - and CPU & MB deals from OCUK.

Nope. No point for me, I've got a hardly used 2500K rig sitting around that I use for gaming (Very rare for me) & encoding, which is its main use. I up the settings to 4.3 for that & it will encode a DVD in about 10 Minutes. I can't see Haswell being much shorter encoding times TBH.

I do have my everyday Trinity rig though, It's itching to have a Richland upgrade soon.... :D

Daft question, why? Does haswell have some kind of extra requirement? (Genuine question, not been keeping upto speed in the tech world lately)

Yes, the sleep state of the CPU's require a stable amp of 0.05A, older generations ran sleep at 0.5A

Haswell has a couple of new power saving modes that take the CPU draw to something silly like <0.5watts, some PSU's won't like that (although you may be able to get round that by adding a couple of extra fans or some case lighting to up the current draw on the 12v line).
