Have to say I love the look of the A3 Saloon.

Don't get too excited, that one is just a diesel. :p

Well did my first fill up of my A4 TDIE and it works out at 47 MPG, not bad, not great - think Audi states 62 MPG.

Driving mainly around town on commute to work with a short couple of junction motorway stint.

Question, as my A4 is pretty sparse on the old extras front I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of ideas for retrofitting items, like parking sensors, cruise control, etc, etc. Also need to know how I can get my concert 2 stereo firmware updated, as I have just bought a large SD card only to find it won't work - doing a quick google I believe a firmware update will sort it out.

regards,

Matt

What exactly do you want to retrofit? What trim level and spec is your car as it stands? What age?

Cruise control is probably the easiest, followed by parking sensors, I did parking sensors on my A6 (including graphical display), the scariest part is cutting the holes in the bumper, but I managed it without making any mess at all so it can't be that hard!

I've retrofit a fair number of things to my A6, and have looked into various retrofits for my A4.

If there are lots of stuff you want doing, it may be worth thinking about selling yours and buying a spec'd one?
But I know in a lot of cases the loom is there you just need the item, or if not you'll need a small part of loom too.

so taken what i believe to be a step forwards in purchasing das Audi :D popped into the Swansea Audi dealership the other day after work for a quick chat.

had a quick chat about what i'm looking for and what i'm after is one of the rarer cars apparently (2.0tfsi petrol a4, manual, quattro) as the majority are FWD and diesel xD but I'm on their list so get alerted when they get any A4s into stock :)

said I have found one but it's from a london audi, guy said well it is possible to get them to release it to them to sell to me but wouldn't be able to get much if anything knocked off the price really between sellers :( (car is £18k 2010 34k miles, sline)

discussing method of payment he said about 90-95% of people buy on finance as it is a lot of money to part with in one go just paying cash (especially if buying new...) so suggested finance is probably the way to go as they contribute to the purchase too...but would i be right in assuming they only contribute on new car purchases, not approved used??

has asked me to have a look through the brochure and send him a rough idea what i want, he'll try and have a look in the second hand for close matches and also price up a new purchase as he explained depending on what I look for, it could be almost the same to buy a brand new one, e.g. going from the car i stated above for 18£ to a base model brand new would only be £2k more pretty much...but then I'm sacrificing the trim and options for something that's new.

this isn;t a bad idea.... but i feel the cost is just escalating more and more :\ originally had a budget of £8-10k for an 54+ plate a4, then after talking to some people and family the suggestions of approved used for piece of mind so accepted the fact it's going to cost a bit more. £18 is a bit on the high end, but if it's financed would probably dump ~£8-10k deposit maybe to bring down monthly payments, but i just feel like its getting more and more all the time.

thoughts and suggestions? oh and the Q, is there deal contribution to finance for approved used or only new? thanks :D

He wants to encourage you to buy with finance as he gets commission from it. Audi rarely if ever do a dealership contribution towards finance on used. If you want to pay cash for a used Audi, pay cash for a used Audi and don't let the dealer convince you finance is 'better' because on a used one it almost certainly isn't unless they are offering it at 3% APR or less.

This is totally daft, if you want a 2.0TFSI Quattro S-Line then compare it with the new price of a 2.0TFSI Quattro S-Line not a bottom of the range whatever with cloth seats. If you'd be happy with a bottom of the range model then you will pay rather less than £18k for a 2010 example anyway so the difference is a lot more than £2k whichever way you look at it.

thanks for the reply :) well yea depends on the %APR, price of the car really for finance or not... i have the monies saved... it's just daunting to hand over so much cash xD

yea i get the example was a bit daft and would obviously be sacrificing the engine/options/trim for a lesser model that's newer... but it was just an example he gave to show what he would try and do for me regarding used car search and giving a new option also (for teh more monies ;) ) the other thing is about the new models, they seem to be gearing away from manuals with the multi/s-tronic boxes taking up more of the range... like the 2.0tfsi quattro is now only available in s-tronic. now i've driven an auto astra before... was ok, left like a gokart but didnt like not changing gears :p but s-tronic has flappy paddles and believe and be put in manual mode so will only change when i want it to... never used paddles before (except on my pc steering wheel lol)...not sure how i'd feel about it... i know its supposed to be awesome with its double clutch and seemless gear changes but... dunno.... quite a bit of the fun is changing the gears i find xD

think approved is deffo the way to go for peace of mind yea?

S-Tronic is nothing like a traditional auto by the way, so don't let that put you off.

Take one for a drive, you might be pleasantly surprised.

/Says he who has been driving an S5 cab this afternoon.

niceeee!!! :) yea i think i'm going to try an arrange a test drive tomorrow on a petrol a4 as only driven the diesels so far :p so might see if i can swindle two, a manual and an s-tronic one and give it a feel... if it feels good it options up the options slightly. i'd probably always have it in manual mode if i did get a car with s-tronic... but then i suppose that's the beauty of it that you can do that... or whack it in auto/semi when feeling lazy xD

/sidenote: new cars and the DRLs look the sex! only thing i don;t like is on the s-line+ models they no longer have the split exhaust like the did on the B7's :( but that's not tooo high on my preference list :p
