Gay People Against Gay Marriage

Seriously... will we ever get there? I doubt it. There will always be gay pride marches, gay nightclubs, gay this, gay that, even if they get everything they .

well of course there are going to be gay night clubs just like there are s&m clubs, fetish clubs rock clubs etc people like to mingle with people with a similar sexuality/interest mix when on.the pull

straight people are perfectly welcome in them as long as you don't start fights

Hurrdee durrrrrrr why cant we have white history month and white policemans club?!

So explain to me, hurf, why do we need gay-exclusive clubs, in cases where your sexuality is 100% irrelevant?

Like GayGamers... so you're gay, huh? Whoop dee do. And you're a gamer? Well, there's already a massive community of gamers. But no! You're gay. Everything it totally different when you're gay. So you need a gay-only gaming club!

It retains the civil partnership option but does not extend it to heterosexual couples who may wish to legalise their union without the formal structures associated with marriage.

Isn't that coming at the moment anyway? It was just too much of a struggle in parliament dealing with all the anti gay marriage wrecking amendments and equalising gay marriage is the priority so we can end discrimination of gay people in society a little bit before we start worrying about whether or not straight people can have that little extra choice in defining their legal coupling.

Nightclubs was totally a terrible choice of example. Terrible. I don't know what I was thinking. Night clubs are often just a place to get a partner for the night, so it's actually one place I can understand separating straight people from gay people :p

Such as? Not trying to be a ****, just genuinely interested.
One that I was listening to on the radio the other day was linked to the inheritance of pensions. Even if gay marriage is legalised, there's going to be a significant difference in various policies between straight and gay married couples, let alone straight married couples and civil partners.

the issue was adding the amendment to make civil unions available for both would take up to 2 years, so they want to just push through the marriage now, then later they can either abolish civil unions or open them up to all, much much faster as there wouldn't really be anyone wilting to debate/delay the legislation. as there would with it being tacked on to gay marriage iirc

Because of the massive amount of abuse that is suffered in traditionally straight clubs. Try playing a casual game of CoD without being called a f4gg0t or talking about sucking penis? It's a safe place where gay people can play games without the fear of abuse or discrimination, with people who have been through the same hardships and struggles and be able to relate to one another whilst enjoying an activity.

I guess in your privileged life you have never had to utilise the resources of a support group, or if you have, it was so easy to come by that you didn't even appreciate it.

The big beef i have is why do straight people care so much about the use of the term marriage? Do hetro couple believe it devalues their vows because two 'poofs' are getting married?

Just give it up. It is simply a word. So what, lets change the redefine the word - big deal. Nothing really to get out your pram about.

When people ask a couple if the would ever form a union, 9 times out of ten they would ask 'you think you would ever get married?' - Its simple, easy to relate to as it is something deep within our culture.

Nothing to get out your prams about

As I said it is the current legislation being passed...you cannot equalise marriage rules for everyone if your legislation is inherently discriminatory. You are simply replacing one form of discrimination with another.

If it is wrong for one group then it is wrong for another and their is no good reason to introduce discriminatory legislation in this regard..all they have to do is extend the Civil Partnership criteria or remove it altogether.

Equality means Equal rights for all.

well a lot of the other silly things like sports teams etc are.kinda justified too, try pretending to be openly gay for a little while I can guarantee some of your friends will turn on you and otheres will start to talk behind your back.

sometimes people just want a group that they know.wont pick on them for one specific reason, yes it's ****, yes it shouldn't have to happen, but the world isn't perfect and having a safe space where you don't feel, lesser, intimidated, or singled out is indescribably important.

So my friend posted this:

he bible is clear that marriage is for (as well as other things) procreation. Marriage is God-ordained. Therefore, society wanting to re-write God's rule can't be right - same sex partnerships cannot make a baby(!), nor does it fulfill how marriage is defined throughout the bible - being a picture of Christ's love to the church. Therefore we mustn't secularise something biblical and God given.

The church does (at times) get it wrong, the slave example highlights this, but when men and women call to re-write God's word, (in this instance with His definition of marriage) then Christians should stand up for marriage, not to be homophobic but to preserve what is given to men and women by Him who made us.

That doesn't make it right..the Bill should have been composed so to account for any inherent inequality before being submitted and the whole point of readings in the house is to iron out such issues and make amendments if such inequalities arise..if it takes time, it takes time...but passing inherently discriminatory legislation is wrong, simply because it is heterosexuals that are the discriminated group doesn't make it acceptable to do.

How do they know you're gay?

1. Did you give yourself a gamertag like 'wutwutinthebutt'
2. Did you spray a picture of two guys going at it all over the map?
3. Did you introduce yourself on the server with "lo guys, I'll be your gay CoD player for today'

In short... how in the 9 hells do they know you're gay?

Answer: you couldn't resist bringing it up. No doubt. You wanted to bring it up to prove how 'intolerant' they all were. So you tell all the other players that you're gay, and probably tell them how much you'd like to do Brad Pitt just for good measure. Then you get angry when a few people take the bait, and have a go at you.

Something like that, eh?

I mean, seriously, if you didn't tell them they were gay, how would you get 'persecuted'? And why tell a group of strangers that you're gay? Why?

Ancient Greeks certainly did get married and it was a fundamental part of their social structure, highly formalised and steeped in tradition and symbolism.

Homosexuality in ancient Greece was not quite the same as we would term such today either, the most common and the generally accepted form of homosexuality in Ancient Greece was in fact Pederasty, something which is illegal in most countries today. Adult homosexual relationships in Greece also had social stigma attached to them, particularly for the less dominant partner and always formed a Dominant-Passive relationship rather than one of equals, with the masculine partner being the dominant one and the feminine one having the social stigma attached to them. While the Pederastic relationships were formalised and could be considered a form of marriage, they were temporary, ending when the boy was 17. Adult homosexual relationships did not have the same formal standing as heterosexual ones.

However the Romans did perform same-sex marriage unions, however once again they did not have any formal legal status and were not considered the equal of heterosexual marriage. (it was considered on the same lines as a relationship with a slave, with one partner being the dominant one)

While homosexuality was considered in a far more liberal way, particularly amongst the higher social classes in Ancient Greece, it still was not as accepted and commonplace as some would like us to believe and is not really a comparison to what we are heading toward today, with equality under law.

A typo on my part, I meant that they did not have homosexual marriage.

because the world isn't perfect sometimes practically had to take precedent over ideals, you where a solider, a sniper even, I'd imagine that's a concept you have had to make peace with a long time ago

like I said man it's not just strangers if you come out gay tomorrow I bet you'd be surprised by.how some of your friends react
