Oakley Wire Sunglasses - experts needed.

Hi,

I managed to scratch my A Wires (circa 2001 era) this weekend for the first time since I've owned them, bit of a bummer. The frame itself is a little bent due to an unfortunate incident with a football, so I'm starting to think they've had a good innings but time to put them out to pasture.

The glasses I currently have are Oakley A Wire Thick Frame Black Iridiums, I've had a look for a similar new old stock pair on eBay but I don't trust any seller on there new or used with Oakleys to I'm coming around to the idea of buying new again. Figure it's worth the outlay for a pair of sunnies that'll last me over a decade.

These are my exact current glasses:

But, as expected they're just listed for historical value, else I'd snap another pair up and be done with it!

However I've had a pair before when I thought I'd lost the A Wires (found them again, great result!) and I couldn't get on with them, too light and the frames feel too thin.

They're all going to be pretty light. Would be Blender all day long for me, and I've seen/worked on/owned my fair share of Oakleys over the years.

Depends on lens colour though.

Slightly going off topic, I recently noticed that my Oakley Dartboards were developing fracture lines on the lens where the arm connects. I took some pictures and emailed them to their support email address enquiring if there was anything they could do.

Unfortunately Dartboards are long out of production/support and thus they couldnt do anything for them. But as a gesture of good will they offered me 40% off a new pair of Oakley sunglasses.

I am now a proud owner of a pair of Oakley Polarized Titanium Crosshairs!

Well worth a try, take some pics, praise how much you love your Oakleys and see if you get a good will gesture!
 
I've got a set of Whisker 6B's as my prescription glasses and I'm looking at another for sunglasses, or possibly the c-wires.

leaning towards the c-wires are they're larger and will block out bright sunlight. But, the downside for me is the lenses are ~£250 on their own. Ouch...

Yeah that's what I'm leaning towards as well. Prefer the frame shape to the others. Definitely polarized iridium again for me. Not a fan of tan glasses tbh.

I've dropped them a mail already actually bud to see if they'll offer me anything in the way of a repair, I love the current pair so would be awesome if I could keep them going. Good result though!

They are a nice pair, but just didn't get on with them coming from the A Wires. They just felt like they were going to break all the time, and were too light. The thicker rimmed Wires feel a lot sturdier, and have a bit of weight to them. Plus they clamp to the side of my head well, where the Whiskers didn't.

True, but I've had over 10 years out of my last purchase so works out less than ~£15 a year for sunnies. I like to take care of my kit, so intend them to last!

Why not just go into somewhere like Sunglasses Hut and try them on?
Unless you are in the middle of nowhere, you must have some place you can try sunglasses.

If you have O2 as your mobile phone network, they actually have 20% off Oakley's at Sunglasses Hut and Oakley stores for another week with O2 Moments. I bought some last week and it worked out at just a couple of pounds cheaper than buying online, so made a nice change.

See your point though, of course I will be trying them before buying so will narrow it down to a couple of pairs and then try and find a local retailer who has them in stock.
 
Worth checking what Eyewearoutlet have. I've had two pairs of Whiskers from them. Both are meant to be seconds - the only thing I've ever found on the pair I keep in the car is the bag has some marks on it. They've got some C wires for £98 at the moment.

I'm fairly certain I have a pair of A-wires at my parent's house which I don't use and have no intention of using them again - you can have them if I find them. Trust me your address.
