Strange topic, but better to ask a bunch of randoms for advice in my position.

I have a job interview this Tuesday, I won't go into much detail about the job, knowing my luck the interviewer will be reading these forums. However it is basically an IT technical support role at a top 10 University within central London dealing mostly with students and their computer problems/issues.

My problem being is I have natural dreadlocks, I am a mixed race guy and have had my hair grow naturally like this since I was born. Problem being is I don't know whether to get a hair cut or not, I've worked pretty much the same job before, except this time the salary is £9k more.

Apologies for terrible self taken photos, the biggest mirror I have is the size of my head, and I've not had a shower today....

I don't really want to cut my hair to please someone, yet don't really not want to not get the job because of it.

My last boss told me at the staff party I got the job compared to the other guy only for the fact he couldn't decide between us and went for the fact I looked like Sideshow Bob / David Luiz :D

Stop showing off. :p

I don't think you have to worry tbh. You'll be the cool dude in the office with the dreads, and they aren't even that crazy. It's not like it's a fire hazard, no?

If they don't like it, tackle them in the box.

Maybe tie it back into a kinda ponytail thing.

Looks fine to me, I would hire you, most IT jobs are quite relaxed on stuff like this unless you work in sales.

It kind of depends entirely on whether the interviewer is prejudiced or not. I probably wouldn't employ any bloke that had long hair, likewise I wouldn't employ any woman with short hair. I'd just want a typical Joe who'll do the 9-5 with no questions asked and are not likely to do anything interesting or be anything interesting.

If they start giving you any lip, bust out a verse or two of 'Killing in the name' by RATM.

Dude... I get so much of that haha! Funny thing is I love RATM !m!

Not sure whether you're being honest or just plain sarcastic :D

Think I will keep it long, but neat and tidy while crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

The first impression I got from looking at the pictures is the style of it gave you a casual disposition (the fact its dreads isn't a problem) and even if thats a wrong opinion of you its going to stick in the interviewer's mind even if they (and I wouldn't personally) don't discriminate based on it, especially not if you were otherwise well suited for the job. (This may depend a bit on what sort of job your going for).

I'd definitely tie it back or otherwise shape it so its not straggling around the shoulders if you want to make a good impression on the interviewer.

Your dreads are really neat and I like the curls at the end. They're not those massive, messy looking dreads so I don't think it's an issue. Tied back would probably work best for an interview situation.

At the end of the day, if you look presentable and say the right things at interview, they won't be judging you on your hair.
