Who remembers waiting in line for their favorite arcade game Or games? With an over-flowing pocket of 10ps lol NARC/ThunderBlade/ Street Fighter/Outrun/TMNT/Robocop/WWF Superstars/ Golden Axe/Shinobi/Space Harrier/Final Fight/Galaga/Track & Field. The list is endless! Those finger bashing games that kept us amused upon hours on end! I walk into an arcade complex now-a-days, with all new games..And it doesn't quite feel the same. Even when I emptied my pocket, it didn't feel the same either. There was a particular game that had me busy through out my after school hours, and that was a game that went by the name of "Time Traveler" It was a holographic game, in which you played a cowboy, to which you had to travel through time. Does anybody else remember that one, as well? Oh..and Dragon's Lair, and Space Ace. Can't forget those ones

Do any of you guys have any fond memories of any arcade games. 80's/90's

What I would give to have the money and space to fit a pinball or arcade machine in the house, the hour's I spent on Outrun....the music, the memories!

I lost track of how much I poured into Space Harrier, enough to complete it though!

There was two versions of SH..Do you remember? The one with the rotating chair lol, and the other in which you had to stand in front of it. Such a fun game that was..And still is

I remember when I was in school, always going down to the local chippy on my lunch break with a few others. Using the change from buying chips to play Street Fighter 2 and being disappointed to see that one of the good players were there before me so had to wait a while.

We done this everyday until the chippy got rid of the machine.

Always late going back to after lunch registration form to lol.

They both take your money, sure.."Cabs" Seem appropriate to me lol I just had to mention two other favs of mine.. Chase HQ & Rampage

I had great memories of all those games :)

I was lucky that I had a school friend's uncle that owned a seaside arcade. When we ventured there on some weekends. He would close up early, order in some pizzas and soft drinks and switch the cabs to "free play". There were more cabs than us kids. We even had "geek chicks" come with us :)

Those were the days, out run and robocop, wonderboy and rastan blurring away in the background :)

I used to spend hours in the arcade, from senior school all the way till I left home for university.

The bus used to stop in town right outside the arcades on the way back from college and me and my mates used to stay there playing till the last regular bus was time tabled to leave for the area we lived in.

Some people would wait for me to come in so I could kick their butts at street fighter; no joke. I was away for two weeks and the owners swapped xmen vs street fighter for sf3, they practice for hours so they could kick my butt when I came back, but I still won. lol

I have very happy memories of being arcades, fill of people playing and watching, in London when I visited family, so players used to cover the joystick and buttons with a towel so people couldn't see what they was doing. Smoke filled rooms, machines being played as background noise being drown out by the hip hop music coming from my headphones. It was a great period of my life. :D

I do have the space to get or build an arcade machine, I even toy'd as far as shopping for one. But I know that it would hardly get played and like all the other toys; it be a waste of money.

I remember being on holiday eight parents in 2003 maybe at a caravan park, and in the evenings I'd play pool with my dad and brother, and they had a arcade cabinate with a game called 'outrun' on it that I had never heard of. I was immediately addicted and spent ages on it even tho 'the graphics were crappy' and Iwent on it every night :D

This. If we ever build the house extension me and the wife keep talking about, I'm allowed a man cave. I think I'll have to make room for a cabinet in there, as it would be supremely awesome. I have a lot of found memories of playing arcade games growing up, as I'm likely older than most people here, so can remember playing them as far back as the early 80s. Track and Field was possibly my favourite though. I kicked ass on that and could be on it for ages :D

I'm the master of light gun games, my coordination is such that I belive I would be lethal with a actual firearm.

I defeated a boss in some game that was meant to take ages and be very tricky as he was a very small target...but I headshotted him. A single bullet.

Used to go down the local swimming pool to play Street Fighter 2 with friends quite a bit around 20 years ago, yes there is a certain irony about going to a fitness venue to play video games :P

Used to shovel in quids (5 credits?) rather than 10ps though.

As an aside in more recent years I found that arcade machines were still pretty addictive even though basically they were RUBBISH graphically compared to my PC, something to do with the control setup maybe (e.g. playing racing games that look awful but have a steering wheel and move around a bit).

I used to love this and my only claim to fame in the arcades Is that in Barry Island back 20ish years ago, they had TMNT and I managed to get 2nd on the scoreboard and that stayed their throughout the summer, as when I went down end of season it was still on there.

I had a crowd around me as I was playing. I wish they had smart phones like today so that I could have took a pic and uploaded it up on FB, twitter and share on forums. Next summer they got rid of the machine and wondered what happened to it.

Are there even arcade games that you can't play on a console?

Pretty much every game in the arcade can be played at home "for free" IE they're not "pay to play".

In comfort, no need to go anywhere, same graphics as the arcade, possibly a bigger screen too.

To me its not about "why are arcades not popular anymore?" its "how are arcades still clinging on"?
