Xbox live vs Playstation Network

Lamenting the loss of free multiplayer on PS4. I'm sure it'll improve but I preferred the current model of extra goodies, cloud usage and discounts for ps plus people and free multiplayer.

Don't get me wrong I do have ps plus but I feel suddenly it's going to be a lot more difficult to play socially with friends who'd rather not pay for it.

I should add though you can get a full year of ps plus for around £30 if you wait for the right time ( I got mine for £28!) and a year is enough to time to wait for another deal to roll around before you buy it again as ps plus membership stacks (anyone know the limit to how much stacks?).

If your friends will have difficultly paying for PS+, do you really think theyll be getting a PS4/XO straight away anyway? If I was in that situation, I wouldnt be...

EDIT: Im not a fan of paying for MP, but then Sony (or more the users) wont have the ability to excuse the service because its free. Let say they did very well to sneak the charge in though as ultimately MS made the next gen environment look so bad that the concession to move from free MP to charge actually felt like Sony were doing us a favour, which obviously they arent :p

ps3ud0

It is my belief that the PSN will be vastly improved. As noted already, it's been considered since the beginning this time and they have seen how important it is to nail it.

The issues I find with PSN now against Live for me are:
-No XMB Party Chat, no matter what game everyone is playing/or not playing.
-The Speed of XMB while in game is shocking so setting up parties, joining/inviting to games is just terrible
-No option to see a friend in a game, then with the click of a button join their chat and game instantly

These 3 points to me are what make Live a better service. I found everything else to be the same.

Also, these 3 points will Obviously be vastly improved upon for PS4. The extra RAM will get rid of the terrible slowdown and a better UI will improve how to join and chat with friends.

And I'm very pleased they are charging for PS+ to keep money going into the service. I just got 12 months PS+ for £19 so for £1.58 a month, it's simply nothing. Even at full price it's not even enough to be considered a monthly outgoing.

I'm 99% sure I'm getting PS4, and messing up the 3 points above is the only way I won't now as it's the last thing left I need to see before my choice is 100% made.

I've seen people stack 7 years so not sure there IS a limit.

I just constantly watch hotdealsUK for any PS+ 12 months that come up <£25.
My best so far is £18.95 which was £25 off coupon +£3.95 P+P.

Game have sold them at £20 in store before for short periods. So I just nab one anytime I see a great deal.

In terms of feats, Id say XBOX Live is better at the moment.

If asked which were better value for money... Id have to go with PSN as XBOX Live just seems like a huge rip off.

But... but... you're getting Defense Grid: The Awakening as your free game on Xbox for July!

Like I said. I doubt anyone can dispute XBOX Live features. Its been ahead of PSN and Nintendo's offering for years.

The problem with xbox live is that you require membership to access anything online.... Including things you may have already paid for (Netflix, Lovefilm...)

XBOX Live has my vote.

XBOX Live from my view: Overall secure, safe and controlled online gaming environment. Easy to use, straight forward and really worth the price which is in-between £30 - £40 for a year's worth of "Gold XBOX Live" membership. Microsoft handle their servers well and downtimes aren't usually very long. They also have a service status to see if XBOX Live is down and give you an insight to what the problem is. Controller on the XBOX 360 gave me much better accuracy on games such as Call of Duty and many other FPS games as well as better precision on driving games. :)

PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network from my view: I have heard so many negatives views for PSN/SEN. Despite I used to own a PS3 and also I own a PSP (still use it for some things). I traded my PS3 (250GB Slim model) in for an XBOX 360 Slim 250GB and I haven't looked back since. I have to say, this Network isn't handled correctly. Maintenance times are very long and the Network doesn't seem to be very fast when you're downloading items. It is terribly slow. Plus, the console's controller (Dualshock 3) is very small and more aimed towards children and their hands or teenagers. Adults hands are bigger and their thumbs tend to be tight when using the analogue sticks.

PSN/SEN's network will be paid for soon. Which means XBOX Live will win most of the deals. XBOX Live will create something over PSN/SEN's network. I can assure people of it. lol

I'm not a so called "fan-boy" of the XBOX/XBOX Live. I just see it as a better designed system/network. I've been on both consoles/online services.

I love both consoles; although XBOX 360/XBOX Live wins my vote. ^_^

We're talking about the online services and you raise thoughts regarding the controllers lol.....

Care to share these issues?

My internet is very fast and I have all open ports and get NAT type OPEN on every game.

Hmm, kicked from games due to their servers. Loading times, disc errors, updates issues (updates take very long times). Call of Duty on XBOX says "Searching for games 45/50". Call of Duty on PS3 says "Searching for games 5/50".

I get host almost 10 out of 10 games that I join when a new host is picked due to how good my connection is. :)

Both connections were wired with an Ethernet cable directly to my router/modem (same terms apply).

Seems to me XBOX has much better latency times.

Hmm, the back of the PS3 Slim has very bad ventilation. The cables were getting hot and starting to warp due to how much heat is created. My 360 Slim however keeps so cool and makes near to no noise at all. Although, the PS3 made quite a lot of noise. Mainly when playing full HD content and downloading items (probably due to the CPU usage going on).

XBOX seems to be able to handle online pressure and HD pressure amazingly, plus the graphics on the XBOX are slightly better than PS3's (from my view again).

The OP obvious created this thread for a console war. lol :D Plus, trolling - although I'm not a troll. A troll doesn't use facts/views. Just pure lies.

No one called you a Troll lol..... However, I do believe someone called you a fanboy.

Lmao.

Can we stop with fanboy posts now and go back to the actual thread?

What else can we discuss? We don't know what PS4's Network (PSN/SEN) will be like. Plus, they haven't given us an insight to technical features.

XBOX has, though. Skype and much more. ^_^ PS3/Sony doesn't seem to integrate their network the same way XBOX does with other services.

People shouldn't keep their hopes up for an amazing network on PS4. From what I see it has already been achieved on XBOX/XBOX Live already.

Plus, PlayStation Network is soon to be paid for due to the PS4's upcoming release. If you haven't heard already; looks like it is neck and neck for both consoles/networks.

Agreed, which is why most are comparing current gen services.

As for PSN becoming a paid subscription. I have no problem with that as PSN members will be paying to play games online and not just to gain access to online features.
