It looks like Shelvey's off. Tonight's Guardian and Telegraph are reporting that a £6m fee has been agreed with Swansea and he could complete his move by the weekend, however the local papers in Liverpool will supposedly be reporting in the morning that he's off to Palace.

Either way, £6m's not a bad price for him. He's got a bit about him but failed to take his chances last season - with Coutinho and now the signing of Alberto, he wasn't going to get much of a look in next season.

I had good hopes for Shelvey when we signed him, but it just never seemed to happen, he picked up quite a bit when we put him out on loan and I had hoped he would return with that same vein of form. Sadly I think he actually tries too hard and that causes him to make errors in decision making. I'm happy with 6m for him though.

If it's the BBC interview with Chappers he said nothing of the sort, he said why would he want to leave when he's at probably the best club he can be.

Hearing on the radio this morning that Phelan said Rooney is definitely off. Also, Arsenal to buy Gareth Barry :(.

That would be a huge kick in the teeth if after all this talk we end up with some French kid and Gareth Barry. I might even join dm's witch hunt for wenger if that happened :p

It doesn't make sense for us to go for him.

Come on wenger, just pay the extra couple of million for Higuain. Even £24m is a good price. We are apparently only offering £21m

I can see it being a quiet window for Newcastle, think about it, who would actually want to come and sign for this club? Joe Kinnear is ruining us

Why? Being linked with 'big' name players and ending up with some young french dude and older premiership performers is the usual modus operandi for Arsenal..

Come on wenger, just pay the extra couple of million ...

Never has before, honestly can't see it happening this time round either.

I would not be amused If we spend Rooney style money on a 28 year old baines.

Assuming 'Rooney style money' means the fee that he was bought for from Everton, then I'm not sure where on earth you've seen us reportedly lodge a bid anywhere near that .

By most accounts, we went in with a £12million offer which was rejected. It's not suddenly going to go up to £30million is it now...

Although to be honest, if you had any say in Manchester Uniteds club affairs we'd be stuck with Charles ****ing N'Zogbia for £30million.

When I say Rooney style money I'm talking the 20-22million deal that's been mooted with arsenal. Given that our 12 mill was rejected for baines and that he's 28 and has much less profile and commercial draw.

rooney is being a complete arse imo. clearly wants out but wont hand in a request as he may scupper bonuses.

united would be best to put him for sale, get his ridiculous wages off the books and actually give moyes a chance to get on with things without the rooney fiasco rocking the boat.

rooney could've been remembered as one of englands greats but he wont. he'll be remembered as a greedy fat striker who got above his post and didn't release his full potential.

They need to get him to stay or go, either way they need to put it to bed or it will drag on all summer. Every paper you pick up has some annoying Rooney headline.

We've made a bit of progress over the past few weeks.

Signed:

  • Alan McCormack from Swindon (whom I was shouting vitriol at in the play-offs just a couple of months ago)
  • George Saville on loan from Chelsea for 6 months. Looks good and scored on his friendly debut yesterday
  • Will Grigg on a bosman from Walsall. Unbearably excited about this as I reckon he's one of the most talented players in League One, with Villa and a load of Championship clubs looking at him recently. Plus I put in a "we should sign Grigg" post on the Bees forums about a week before it appeared we were!
  • Jake Bidwell from Everton. Was in the England U20 large squad this summer and the youngest player to play for Everton. Got him on a free after two season-long loans

Trials:

  • Martin Fillo from Viktoria Plzen. Former Czech U21 captain and 3 caps for the senior side, plus was the subject of a £1m transfer to Viking not too long ago.
  • Daniel Muller from Bayern Munich II. 6'9" goalkeeper! With loads of clubs scouting Simon Moore, including Man Utd, it may looks like Muller could be our number one next season if he signs.

Out:

  • Harry Forrester signed for Doncaster Rovers on a bosman today. Bit sad to have lost him, but his performances did drop after our cup run despite popping up with a few goals.

Rumour:

  • Darren Ward on a 2 year deal from Swindon. 2 years is a long contract for a 34 year old - I think we'll be using him sparingly but will be relying on him to play a big role in the development of our young defenders.

Very happy so far. Season ticket bought, train to Stoke for opener against Port Vale ordered. Friendlies against Millwall and Cardiff to look forward to :)
