Get off your phone

I wouldn't dream of talking on my phone while being served anywhere, it's called manners!

I think the woman should have just got on with her bloody job tbh. She has no right to refuse custom, there is no need for any interaction other than an acknowledgement and payment.

Do the bloody job you stupid woman.

I used to work in TKMaxx and hated it when people talked on their phone while i was serving them. So much so I would forgo the smile and thank you at then end of the transaction. Take that!

This is why robots are taking over... You don't get attitude from the self-serve checkouts...

Have you not seen customers raging in anger at self-checkouts.

I once saw a woman start stamping her feet and screaming like a child because she couldn't work out how to use it or it was not working correctly.

Worse is people getting on buses while they're on the phone, then having a chat whilst they're digging around trying to find some money or a ticket, whilst everyone else (ie. me) wants them to spontaneously combust.

Here in the US, I've seen many signs saying that you won't be served until you've finished your call. I know it sometimes can't be avoided, but (as somebody who was a retail monkey for a few years...) it is incredibly rude when it's an obvious non-urgent call.

Basic manners, regardless of where you think you are on the ladder a bit of common courtesy is not a chore. Put the phone down for 2 minutes !

If your call is that important put your shopping off until it's completed

What winds me up is people like that normally have a full shopping trolley worth of items - and they think they can do it faster than a till assistant, but end up winding themselves up so much that their head looks like it might explode :p

A few of us have boycot a shop around the corner from the office as the owner can't be bothered to get off his phone when serving you. It's like you are an inconvenience being in his shop and wanting to purchase items from him.

Most definitely rude but hardly grounds to refuse her custom, even if she was completely ignorant and didn't acknowledge the cashier. Unfortunately ignorance and plain rudeness comes part and parcel when dealing with the public.

Good on the checkout worker, bad on Sainsbury's for apologising.

This. I remember from my shop days, serving a customer on the phone was often extremely annoying, especially if they weren't concentrating on what they were doing.

Very rude, idiot woman on the phone and it did raise a smile when she said she'd be using the Waitrose instead.

I was in a hotel restaurant a few months ago and watched the guy opposite me order his diner whilst on his mobile. He simply pointed to the menu and didn't say a word to the waiter. As has been said, ignorance and plain rudeness.
