Wimbledon

He gets a hard time for no real reason, he cracked a joke years ago about English footie time , media blew it up which is the reason why he doesn't say anything overly interesting in the media.

If you watched his interview after todays match the guy was just probing for a headline are you going to the hairdryer treatment blah blah.

He is british he's playing well and showed he has bottle coming back today bring on the semis and hopefully the final where anything can and has happened

I think it was more the fact that verdasco was good rather than Murray being poor.

I thought boris bekker was great commentating pointing out Murrays negativity on key points in the match.

Imo the big polish guy is gonna be a problem in the semis.

Thought Murray handled that interview well, interview was probing to try and get a rise out of him and I'm glad Murray went on the attack rather than offer the usual tennis platitudes. As he said, why should he get a *******ing when he beats an opponent that played well on the day, especially when the likes of Federer and Nadal have gone out to relative unknowns this year.

I also liked when the interviewer tried to give him a backhanded compliment about what an achievement it was to reach so many semi finals at Wimbledon and he just responded, deadpan, "Yes, that is difficult".

Yeah, the interview afterwards really was cringeworthy. The interviewer did apologise to Andy afterwards though, he was probably told to try and get some reference to Sir Alex in there. I would have gone with some kind of Fergie-time comment myself though.

And bloody well done to Andy Murray. When he went 2 sets down I thought he was out, but we all know he's a fighter and if one thing has really improved over the last few years, it's his mentality. He didn't beat himself up too much, he remained calm, he changed his game slightly, and he found a way to win. Considering players like Federer and Nadal haven't been able to do the same thing themselves this tournament when faced with inspired opponents, Murray deserves a lot of credit.

As for whether he's playing well enough to beat Novak, I think this match will do him some good, having been really pushed. As good as Novak has been, no-one has pushed him (though I expect Del-Potro will), and sometimes I think you need that push to really get you ready for the biggest matches.

The semi should be a more straighforward match though. Janowitz hits huge serves but doesn't have the variety of spin and power than Ferdasco does (from what I've seen anyway). Considering that Murray is generally one of, if not the best returner of serve around, he can hopefully negate Jerzy's biggest weapon and move him around the court and win fairly comfortably.

The BBC have been shocking with Andy, this year and last. They won't give up trying to turn him into a sports personality - he's not that type of guy and you can see he doesn't care for the attention. The amount of times they've tried to get him to comment on his emotions (even last night, one of the questions was "Was that perhaps the most emotional match so far?"). He's playing tennis! He isn't even thinking about himself, he's thinking about the game and nothing else. It's painful to watch these unprofessional interviews, really. Ask him about his game because those are the questions he can and will happily answer.

Also, in practically every interview I've seen with him, there is also "How much did the crowd help you here?". It was the same for every single athlete in the olympics - they all dutifully say that they couldn't have done it without them. That kind of thing is better being said without being prompted, bbc.

It just feels like these interviews belong in a tabloid, rather than the BBC. I fully understand that last night's interview was poor judgement on the journalist's behalf; he was probably trying to make a quip and didn't realise it'd be insulting - but why try to be funny in the first place?

It's interesting to note that they've lopped the end of that interview off on the bbc website. For anyone who missed it, the missing piece is here

Snap. Lisicki has been a favourite of mine since beating Sharapova a couple of years ago. She comes across as a lovely girl who just really enjoys playing tennis. Can't help but like someone like her :)

yup, even when she was getting battered by serena in that 2nd set the other day, she still played with a smile on her face. it's so refreshing to see that. she'll definitely have the crowd on her side today.

Looks like the dream is over for Flipkins. 6-1 in the first set and now a break down at the start of the second. Then again, anything can happen in women's tennis :p.
