How to beat addiction to sweet stuff

I'm going thru a bit of a health kick at the moment. Starting running and that. One thing that bothered me is after every meal I want something sweet either chocolate biscuits cake or similar. I will even have 4 or so milk chocolate digestives after breakfast. I know this isn't healthy.
But is my one real weekness. Is there any way of breaking this habit?
 
Cold turkey. Don't buy stuff like that so it's not available for you to eat. Buy healthy snacks instead, etc.

Seriously, the only way to beat the junk food habit is just to stop eating it.

4 milk chocolate digestive biscuits is over 300 calories, man.
 
Don't buy them.

Find something to fill you up which is healthier, something high in protein.

You could start having steak quite often if you like that, high quality lean burgers cooked with spices (with salad) can be great.

Smoked salmon, prawns, nice roast chicken breast, sushi or pretty much anything without sugar (which is satisfying) - to slowly wean yourself off it.
 
I've been dieting about 3 weeks now and no exactly how you feel, i've been training well and have a holiday to look forward to next week which has given me the motivation to cut it all out. Still get cravings for fatty foods though, cant see that ever going either just make sure you keep eating healthy stuff when ever your really hungry and craving.
 
As someone has said - don't buy them and buy fruit instead.

Natural sugar :)

Also just drink water and you'll appreciate the natural sugars more, sometimes to the extent where others are too much.

I try to avoid fruit personally, they have been selectively bred over time to be sweeter & sweeter with less & less nutrition.

Obviously, they are better than most chocolates (as a virtue of having a lower calorie count) but fruit sugar is still sugar & better avoided in large quantities - vegetables & meat are vastly superior.

But saying that, it may be a good method of weaning off the sweets.
 
I've been on a low Carb diet for four weeks now and have cut out all but sugar in my morning Brew, as others have said supplement your meal with large quantities of protein and you wont want the sugary extras. lots of fruit and water will always get shot of your cravings. I've been getting through 4 apples and 1/4 a mellon a day and have 300g of roast/grilled chicken a day in my main meal (salads at the moment).

I have lost nearly a stone in weight and have toned up thanks to the extra exercise I have started doing as well.

Yes don't buy them is the best way.

This why FF does the grocery shopping :p if it were left to me we'd be living off pizza and Ben and Jerry's lol.

Im the same, i substituted dairy milks for sugar free chocolate, its not nearly as good but it kept the craving under control, and i wouldnt have been able to diet for 8 weeks other wise.

The water thing is very much true - 3 months or so after switching to water as my only drink I now cannot stand full sugar soft drinks and begrudge having the diet equivalents too!
 
after not eating sweet things and sugar for a while you will get used to it and not want it any more

in fact, eating sugary things will taste horrible once you adjust to not having it
 
Make it black or if anything, americano with a dash of milk.

Not full fat latte with 3 sugars, you may as well have a snicker's bar instead !

It's time and pain unfortunately.

I deprived myself of chocolate for six months once. First month was a real hard time for, being a chocolate addict. I barely missed it the month after. The four months that followed I couldn't even remember the taste, and didn't crave it at all.

But then one day, I let the sugary good stuff touch my lips once more…

Whether you believe the conspiracies on that or not, there is some truth to it to an extent, which is why fruits in more exotic places often taste better as are more likely to be picked from a field which just grows naturally. However, the benefits of fruit far outweigh processed and refined sugars. Furthermore, the vitamins and fibre content are also of great help.

Fructose is a monosaccharide, meaning it is a single sugar molecule. sucrose is disachharide which s glucose linked ith fructose. Fructose is absorbed more slowly because of the presence of fiber and other phytonutrients in fruit and has a smaller insulin trigger sometimes may not ever stimulate an insulin secretion. Whereas sucrose whilst similar in makeup behaves differently (and generally heavily processed). Sucrose being a disachharide breaks into glucose plus fructose and are absorbed as 2 different elements. sucrose also creates insulin stimulation to help glucose transport into your tissues. this is the major difference between sucrose and fructose, it is hte presence of glucose.


However!!!

Fructose and glucose will be converted to energy, this energy is stored in a molecule called ATP. But, if your ATP levels are already high, instead of it being used for energy, the fructose and glucose change into fatty acids (triglycerides) for tissue storage (generally fat)

So since excess calories from glucose and fructose are used for the production of triglycerides, and these triglycerides are moved around the body in your bloodstream with lipoproteins.

These lipoproteins deliver these triglycerides all around the body. So...., extra calories from sucrose (and corn syrup (fructose based sugar)) rich foods can increase the amount of fat in your blood, thefefore liver, as well as muscles and generally fatty tissues.

However, the above is amplified greatly by processed and refined sugars, and less prominent with fruits owing to the make up of the fruit. So eat fruit will not be the same as eating a chocolate bar, not in any similarity.

Put it this way, if you like all those sweet fatty sugary foods they increases your risk for developing diabetes and heart disease. If that doesn't help you minimise your want for them then I don't know what does?!

If you like those foods, don’t eat them in excess, treat them as a treat!
