Nonsense. I was suckered into believing this from all the tin foil hat wearers but my last 4 cpu's have all been OEM and were as follows-
Q6600 -3.6ghz
I7 920 -4ghz
Sandy bridge-5ghz
Haswell 4770k 4.7 (comfortable,so far 1 day old)
Maybe some companies do this but I bought all the above from OCUK and have had no problems at all. I think I have had amzing luck getting such good clockers everytime but this proves to me OCUK do not sell us the duffers as OEM products.
I've just got a Haswell build (4770K and Asus Maximus Gene VI).
I've got it at 4.5GHz, I'm trying 1.28v, but I think it may be too low. Temps are ok as far as I can see - the cooler is a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro.
Do you mean 1.128v cause with that kind of voltage in this weather, its goin to reach 95c+ on air cooling during stress test.
I have Megahalems dual fan with 1.20v its already hitting 90c+ during stress test with aida64.
No, 1.28v - it isn't stable though. At 1.128v it won't boot at 4.5GHz.
Just doing some testing now, at 4.4GHz it crashes fairly quickly under stress at 1.22v.
Edit: It looks like I'm going to need >1.25v just to get 4.4GHz stable.
Edit2: 1.25v exactly might be ok for 4.4GHz. I'm doing realistic stress testing for now - a Linux kernel compilation using all cores. It just completed without crashing at 1.25v. I've got hyperthreading enabled which I think can reduce overclocking stability?
Try upping VRIN to 1.9v and CPU RING to 1.15v
I've left the cache multiplier on auto, though previously it was set to 4200MHz.
At the moment AI Suite is showing the CPU voltage as 1.248v and it seems stable at 4.4GHz. As it's so hot today I don't think it's worth trying to work out the temps.
Does this seem a bad CPU? I could return it for exchange (the CPU is from Amazon and two weeks old).
Memory's just 1600MHz.
