Hello guys
My i5 2500k @4.8ghz is bottle-necking my crossfire 7950 in some games. So I liking to buy a i7 2600k for bf4 and other games coming witch will like the extra threads.

Now before I go paying 200+ on a CPU is they anything from intel coming down the pipe line that I should know about before buying?

I would be gutted to spend this on a CPU and in couple months time a even better CPU is out that I could have put the money towards.

Thanks

Aside from the recently released haswell chips, the next big thing from intel is ivybridge e. But for that your gonna need a new mobo. Good choice with the 2600k, you could try the members market on here and offset the cost a bit by selling your current chip.

Difference will be minimal between the 2 chips, if any difference at all.

With Crossfire mate they is a massive difference. My 7950 cant use more than 75% on BF3 and my CPU is stuck at 99%.
Using a i7 2600k will see my GPU usage stick to 99%.

Been talked to death a 2500k is not good for crossfire. And it hurts me in saying why didn't I just get an i7 2600k in the first place.

Agreed shankly, bf3 and sli was the main reason i went from a 4.5ghz 3570k to the cpu in sig.

Yes ivy bridge put me off with the high heat output or I would love one so I could then use PCIe 3.0
Haswell not worth a new motherboard and cpu upgrade over sandy

Ivy bridge E will prob be out my price range and is aimed at hardcore PC users lol
So something in the Price range what haswell is but coming out this year.

Anything?

Tbh PCIe 3.0 doesnt make any noticeable difference. Ive had the cards in sig running in an i7 930 @4.0ghz which is in a dual x16 PCIe 2.0 board. Aside from slightly lower card use due to the age of the older gen chip. Performance didnt feel any different.

A 2600k will not get you 99% load on your GPU's.

A 2600k will only make a difference if your games can use more then 4 threads... Those kind of games are still rare as hell.

True.. its meant to be a difference when you go 3/4x gpu.

Bf3 and crysis 3 are two that do show gains with sli/xfire and an i7. The former i have had experience off with both an i5 and an i7. Card usage and overall smoothness is much better on the i7. The i5 limited my 670's to 80% max, even at stock the i7 let them hit 91% usage.

Crysis 2
Crysis 3
BF3
BF4
Metro 2033
Metro LL

All show signs of CPU bottleneck with Crossfire and i5 2500k. I have seen people's other posts over the Internet who also switched from i5 2500k to i7 and there performance and GPU usage boosted.

Try it but you'll struggle to get much more frames.....

There's not a single CPU on the planet that can drive 2x 7950's to 99% load in EVERY GAME.

My 5.5Ghz 2500k couldn't even do it

Yep
I have to keep my both cards at stock 800/1250 because if I higher them performance gets worst because the CPU can't coupe.

I can't go any higher on the CPU because it dont like 5ghz. So i7 is the only option for them selected games "above" and the future games also will start using more cores/threads.

Because of its 4cores :p Like I said BF3 if very CPU heavy and it loves the extra threads to off load, giving you more GPU usage.

Honest I been over the interwebs I need an i7 lol

What if you get an i7 and it clocks worse the your i5?

Low GPU could also be driver related.....

And personally I run 7950's and my 2500k can blast them enough to never dip below 60fps so I use a few tweaks to up the eye candy and get my GPU's working

There is always that risk tbh. But for bf3 which the op states he plays. He will definitely see much better card usage with the i7. Sure it wont be 99% all the time. But he wont be forever capped at 70-80% max per card like on his current i5, and cpu usage will probably drop from 90% ono to about 60% ono. This will have the added benefit of lowering temps. This game really does like extra threads with multi gpu. And bf4 will likely be the same.
