Hello all,

I'm considering going travelling for a few months (possibly more) in the near future.

Could you be kind enough to give me a break down of the things I'll need to do to make this happen?

I'm presently thinking of starting with China teaching English for a little while (I'll get some cheap online TEFL certificate to do this) and then the possibility of moving on to NZ, Aus and Thailand, etc. before eventually coming home.

I'll have probably about 3-4k in pocket (not including flights) by September when I'd really like to make this happen.

Thanks in advance!

depends where you go, you can go straight to thailand and get a 30 day visa upon arrival

from there you can plan/move around as you wish

i suppose it depends where you want to go and where you want to go first

not sure about australia (i cant remember) but you can do thailand/laos/Vietnam/Cambodia pretty much by turning up in Thailand and booking it all from there

Well, it's all very up in the air at the moment, but I'm fairly certain I want to just go and do something.

A friend wants to go to China in Oct/Sept for a year, so I thought I'd start there for a few months. Possibly look to NZ and Aus after, followed by Thailand and surrounding locales (money permitting of course).

If I were to apply for a working-visa with Aus, do I need to do that here or can I turn up and apply?

"if" it were a choice between Australia and Thailand i would choose Thailand all day long

if you think you might run out of money and not make Thailand , maybe go there first ?

im not sure about the working visa for OZ , i think you need to do that from here but im not sure (someone else will confirm?> )

for me oz was too similar to home (just bigger, nice weather etc) Thailand (and the surrounding areas) were totally different and for me, a much more enjoyable experience

That should be a decent amount of money to see you going for awhile!

For flights, regardless of what anyone else says, you will get the cheapest flights through expedia via their multiple destination option. Yes, it will be a pain in the arse trying every single date combination but you can get some silly flight deals. I got flights from london to Hanoi and back from Singapore with singapore airlines for £550 in june / august.

I'm confused location says London yet you say oz was to similar home. I'm utterly confused by this statement.

£3-£4k is not nearly enough if you ask me.

£3k will do for a month in Oz for a flat/house share deposit and living costs.

You REALLY need more mate. I'm doing something similar in December, off to India, Thailand and the Phillipines then moving into Melbourne to find some contract work for 6 months before heading back to Asia and possibly NZ.

I am planning on having at least £10k in my back pocket to do up until the 8th week in Oz, if by which point, I don't have a job, it's off to New Zealand.

So yea, seriously consider saving more.

I spent £700 in under a month in India (excluding flights) previously just for a holiday. Yes, I lived like a king for a few weeks, but that gives you an idea.

Also, fly into Mumbai, the flights just dropped down to around £300 for departure in December, which are Air India bookings. So snap one of those up as no doubt they will slowly increase in price now.

Also, visa's, they add up... Quickly.

You need to plan things..vaccinations etc

gl you are finally gonna do this then Nix..i remember u talking about it seems like half a decade ago hehe.

Yea, defo a visa for China :)

Email a visa company stating your locations, rough dates and ask what is required.

Won't cost you anything and you have a professional input into what you need.

Vaccinations. Head to your doc at least 3 months prior.

Might be worth a look - www.workaway.info

Im doing the same, but just around europe (using site above). Might head to Africa if I can at some point.

I think some of this is people just looking for cheap labour...

I checked out a few of the Taiwan ads...lets see a support teacher u work 3 hours a day for a month and u get a room and breakfast and lunch.

Average hourly wage for english teacher is 600ntd per hour sooo 3 x 600 = 1800 a day x 4 days = 7200 ntd a week x 4 = 28800 ntd for the month.

Bear in mind u can get a decent studio apartment with cable tv internet etc for approx 12000 ntd...

Seems a pretty raw deal imo...

Other options in Taiwan are cleaning, housekeeping work for 4 or 5 hours a day in hostels.....lol!
