I'm still using Michelin Pro 3s.

Guess I'll see how they stand up to northen roads this coming weekend.

Me, Vonhelmet & co are more than likely out this weekend if you're about. I know there's a Sat & a Sun ride planned (I may not make the Sunday one though).

I'll not make Sunday, but I'll be out Saturday most likely.

And fwiw I've been using Michelin Lithion 2s, not a million miles off the Pro 3s, on my bike for about 4 months now and done over 1,000 miles on them and had no bother.

I used to use the S on the weekend bike all year round, but I've now moved over to Vittoria Open Corsas and Open Pave.

The S are good tyres (I prefer them to GP4000s).

i am using the s version as an all year tyre. survived the winter no problem. very impressed. a few friends use ultremos all year but thats just asking for trouble
The Ultremo DD look interesting, I like the idea of completely slick tyres (I had Schwalbe Kojaks on my previous commuter bike and they were excellent) and they're about the same price as the Marathon Supremes. The sheer amount of choice makes it very difficult to decide what to go for. Maybe I should try the 700x24C Continental GPs I have spare to see if they feel any different to the Vredesteins.

I am - how about I am depends on the boss as we're visiting her folks in Pendle, but I'm up for driving down to meet you guys. Will see what she says, you'll probably all leave me for dead though.

Don't worry, I'm not quick in the least, and I'm sure we can drag someone else slow along if it'll make you feel better ;)

Just found out I've been picked to participate in a 6 week trial on research on the use of energy drinks and cyclists at a nearby University :)

VO2 tests at the beginning and end. Training on Watt bikes so I'll find out my power output and £100 worth of free sports nutrition for participating. :D

I am and worried the weather is a bit too warm, plus never done a century before. Just bought some funkier summer arm covers and will be taking sun screen and 2 biggest water bottles I have. Plenty of gels and real food too !

Just going back to this... During my century ride I got through 4.5 litres of water, including 3 sachets worth of High5 Energy Source and a bunch of High5 Zero tablets, two chunks of flapjack, a banana, 2 gels and a cake, and that was on top of porridge in the morning and some weird high energy milk drink my wife got me. I could have done with more food to be honest, given how I struggled for the last bit of the ride!

It was about 22c yesterday, I think. I managed to pick up a bit of a tan on my arms and legs, but I'd put on some of our kid's suncream and it's like emulsion paint so I don't think I got as much sun as I might have done otherwise. I think I'd have keeled over if not for chugging the water. I saw a couple of guys in bib longs, which seemed insane. There was some guy in regular thick trousers, practically jeans, and a big jacket, with a rucksack. I don't know how he coped in that, unless it was some sort of watercooled astronaut suit in disguise.

With regards to tough tires i can highly recommend michelin krylion carbons if you can find them.... should be cheap now as they have been replaced by a new version.

My 23mm variants have been abused cycling canal tow paths at 17- 20mph, across fields, down green lanes and the like with out a puncture to date. (now on the way home today....) Oh and on the road they seem quick and responsive compared to other tyres ive had.

and i'll agree this mornings theat caught me out 15miles into my commute at 8am i was sweating and by 9am when i got to work i had sunburn not looking forward to riding home 26miles in this heat.

I used to use Krylions before I moved to Durano. I must admit I only stopped using them because they were rarer than hen's teeth. Michelin used to drop production of them all he time if they were running low on a different line. Supply was massively inconsistent before they got replaced.

Great tyres though.

It'd make a cracking training tool!
I was thinking about posting it in the mountain bike thread. I imagine some of those guys would be insane enough to use it on their downhill suicide runs...

Hi,

Is there any app for your phone or anything I can download for the PC that will plan me a cycle route? By that I mean, I just want to go out for a ride, say 20 miles, put in my start destination and end destination, and for it to plot me a route.

I rode out to Grafham Water today as I got my bike back yesterday, which was only a 14 mile round trip and I was hoping to ride around the reservoir, but it looked far too stony/gravely for a road bike. So a little disappointed, and didn't know where to go from there.

I use bikeroutetoaster to plan mine. It's essentially google maps but you can save routes and download to your garmin or whatever.

Bike Hub for the IPhone might be worth a look

I fancy having a go at that 9 mile segment again later. Just using raceshape to look at my time against those in the top 10 (I'm 100+ on this one) something I keep noticing on this and others is I often pull ahead on the climb(s) then fall behind on the flats. Wondering if I should try going slower on the climb at a higher cadence? This one I'm ahead on the first climb then it's a decline the rest of the segment :p

Any advice?
