Looking to build a new system. Will need every thing apart from keyboard, mouse, monitor and OS.

Been a while since I have put any thing together so any advice would be great.

Case and cooler are on pre-order so should be cheaper ordering now before they come into stock. PSU is semi-modular to help with cable management too. An SSD would be nice but you could upgrade to one later on. AS my buddy Idleman says you can flog off the games you don't want, maybe they could help fund the SSD?

Cheers, Hono :)

I was in a quandary and thought sod it! I go with this just to be slightly different :D

Three good specs, with yours and idlemans having a superior GPU and some good games!! :)

Credit where it's due bud ;)

This is what I had originally considered.....

Is over budget slightly though :(

SSD is rapid! HDD has more cache. It's tricky balancing it as the 1TB HDD isn't much more and has even more cache, likewise the 2400Mhz RAM is only £4 more.

We should point out the 7870LE is a Tahiti core so is related to the 7950. OC it and it will trade blows with a stock 7950. The MSI 7950 does have a kick ass games bundle included though and will OC to pull further ahead.

Does`nt seem to be a lot of choice now, regarding decent budget Psu`s. The XFX 550W and Thermaltake 530W modular, have suddenly been dropped. And some of the 500-550W Psus are either to expensive or not good enough.

Yeah it is tricky with those goto PSUs gone :(

One last stab at it......

Alternate case, the Shinobi can't take the H100 but the H80 is an option. Used the faster RAM kit. Could have used the 2133Mhz and the Matterhorn cooler and that would pay for the 1TB HDD. The OP will just have to balance it out as he sees fit :)

Talking of components being dropped, I thought OCUK had stopped selling the VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost Edition(Taihti LE).

They had, thank god it's back! I got my knuckles wrapped the other week for suggesting looking for one. Although to be fair it is THE best mid range GPU as it's priced almost exactly the same as the standard 7870. To get such amazing bang for buck you'd have to be bonkers not to get the 7870LE and OC it.

Thanks for all the input into this. I do have a bit extra cash to play around with so not entirely strict on the £850. Would it be worth the extra £60 for the 7950 rather than the 7870? Would be wanting to include an SSD as well so would the samsung be the best choice there?

The MSI 7950 has 3GB of VRAM, it's also clocked faster out of the box than some of it's rivals. OC that and it's closing the gap on the 7970 and you also get those games bundled in too (stock permitting).

How's this look then?
