Pure speculation: will Benteke necessarily stay in England? PSG and Monaco have the money and willngness to spend big. Possibly Napoli if Cavani goes to PSG? one of the Bundesliga clubs?

Of the rumours linking Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs I don't see anything entirely convincing. I'm not sure Levy would agree to pay £20M+ if that's really what it will take to persuade Villa (Spurs just ended their interest in Damiao having been unwilling to pay that kind of fee?) Who knows what Arsenal might do.

Would Liverpool go for Benteke if they get an acceptable fee for Suarez? City if Dzeko is sold?

how many strikers do chelsea need?!
As an elite level club with bucketloads of cash, they aren't massively well endowed...

They're surely stuck with Torres due to wages, Lukaku is supposed to be part of the first team this season, Schurrle can play CF. I would've thought a 4th striker role would probably be better suited to an experienced player who is happy to be on the bench most of the time, so unless Ba is leaving I don't really see a strong incentive for Chelsea to spend £20M+ on Benteke?

Thankfully I don't think we'll go after Benteke, but Moyes did put up with Anichebe, so you never know.

If we did I'd take him at about £8m, but wouldn't want to pay more.

£8m?

For that valuation you could offer Smalling, Jones, Wellbeck and Cleverley and not have to part with a penny

I love how Villa fans think he's worth 25-30 million because he had a decent debut season :D

Also based on the valuation of other players - Dwight Gayle £8m, Andy Carroll £15m

By anyone's standards, to score 19 goals in your debut season in a side who struggled throughout showed his quality, and he is undoubtedly the most dominant player in the air in the Premier League. I believe he won the most aerial challenges in the top 5 leagues in Europe last season.

Anyway, doesn't matter, we've got Jordan Bowery

I think I said yesterday that I was confident that Villa would be in a Spurs shirt by the end of the week... :o

I'm hoping we can someone decent before the start of the season. Quite happy keeping Defoe and Ade but we need a first choice regular hot shot up front.

Monaco are two years behind City in terms of player attraction. They can't 'afford' to gamble on an unknown prospect like Benteke.

PSG arguably could, but what message does it send out to the seasoned professionals they're trying to attract?

I can see Benteke moving if Villa price him realistically (~£12m) and a mid/top half club comes in for him. I'm thinking Everton or Spurs.

Quite why anyone thinks a Champions League club would move for him I don't know. Unless I've missed something and he comes under the FFP ruling he's not worth the gamble. He needs another two years doing what he did last season before he'll get a big move (unless he massively increases his tally in this coming season).

I wouldn't say no to him at Everton personally (especially if we can keep Baines), but I think Spurs is a much more likely destination. They're more capable of matching his fee and whatever wages he demands.

Why would you not have him at Everton? Surely you've been needing a goal scoring striker since big Dunc :p Obviously his only had one good season so is a bit of a gamble but surely a club like Everton would snap him up?

Ah yeah, I thought he said he would say no :o This morning isn't going well.

I see the papers are creating stories about Chelsea wanting Rooney and Suarez now. They really have nothing better to do it seems by creating a load of speculation about nothing.

Would United fans be happy to sell or keep Rooney, bearing in mind if he doesn't play much or play well next season his price may drop?

Why on Earth would he want to go to Everton ?!

It's a new day, and I'm no longer bitter about the money grabbing mercenary.

All this talk of £12m etc, and Benteke not being proven - clearly the majority of you didn't watch much of him last season - he was fantastic, his touch, finishing, aerial dominance etc - he's also performing well at International level for a very very good Belgium side.

He's obviously not the finished article, but at 22, could become World Class.

Spurs for instance have just paid £18m for a relatively unknown Brazilian, West Ham £15m for Carroll, Man City Fernandinho £30m. I think following a very impressive debut season, his obvious quality and dominance, a figure of anything under £25m would be unacceptable. We don't NEED to sell - he has 3 years on his contract, and despite wanting to leave, we don't have to bow down to his demands - PL made Bent, a £20m+ signing on £70k a week sit on the bench all season - he doesn't suffer fools.

Chris Smalling is still removing himself from the Villa Park turf following the Beast's treatment.
