Road Cycling Essentials

or you could just man up and pedal harder mwhahah.. can't stand people that pedal at 10mph and slow EVERYONE down yet jump in front of the faster cyclists as soon as they get to red lights!?

If you want to cycle at 18mph or more, you should be on the road, not the cycle path, according to the Highway Code. If that's the sort of people uvarvu is coming across, then it's fair criticism.

I can't think of anything more annoying than using a cycle path. From what I've experienced they're inhabited by blind & deaf fat women, idiots stood on one side of the path while their leashed dog is on the other, and other clueless morons.

I'll stick to the road thanks...

+1

i was also looking at bibs, these ones.. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-aeron-pro-cycling-bib-short/ but as a newbie i wanted to keep costs at a minimum untill i know il keep at it.. tbh i just need to lose some weight and my dad gave me one of his old bikes to try out
my main aim atm is for saddle comfort (decent padding), i picked up the bike a few days ago and was in agony on the saddle within a hundred yards, the bikes rock solid with tiny thin wheels and i felt every grain of grit on the road :(

For the extra £10 just get bibs. In a few months when you come to get bibs you'll just be regretting buying something you'll never ever use again anyway.

What height/weight/waist are you?

I've just sold some DHB Aeron Pro this morning for quite a bit less than the new price. They get good reviews but i couldnt get on with them, i think my bum is used to my Castelli Free Aero's.....damn expensive bum.

you could say the same thing about a rack :P
TBH I don't care what people think.
I'm sticking to the law.

No riding on paths unless marked for cycles etc. probably look a wally when I'm at a busy junction I deem to dangerous or when it's easier to cross the road by just jumping off your bike :D

btw are cars actually supposed to give bikes right of way at these? because there's like tons of room and the bike bit seems to be a separate lane pretty much anyway?

Had 2 cars completely stop at them for me even when I was like 10 seconds away from them

I thought motorists hate cyclists? everyone gave me loads of space when I was near the side of the road to.

maybe it's because it's really big on a bike bike and they feel they need to give more space than someone small?

Yes they should give way to you. Oh, and the street cleaners don't go in that little cycle lane on the left so you'll probably find its full of glass, flint and small bits of pointy wire. Best avoided in my experience of the ones round here.

Finally figured out what's been causing my clunking noise lately, after swapping over the front wheel from my commuter.....nothing!

So I have something wrong with my front mavic cosmic. I'll have a look at it later, but I might take it into the shop where at least they know what they're doing.

It sounds like the spokes are catching on the carbon fibre section somehow, no idea how.

Me - 5' 8", 10st 11lb, 32" waist, medium were a good fit, possibly could have got in the small. I'd be thinking large for you i would think, there is plenty of stretch in them in any case.

If yuor main aim is saddle comfort then Bibs will help significantly with this.

No more creaking this morning after finally figuring out what it was.

Swapped over the front wheel, no noise. So it had to be that.

I thought it was the spokes or something similar, as it was a pretty loud clunking/cracking noise.

Took the axle out, couldn't take the bearings out as I don't have a press kit.....had a look, seemed fine.
Put it back in.......silence!! Maybe the hub was a bit too tight, but how it would have caused that noise I have no idea.

One happy bunny cycling in this morning! And no more embarrassment when I'm sprinting anymore :)
