Children not allowed squash in school !

"Rules are rules, just go with it." What a conformist attitude some of you lot have.

Indeed. I think it's a parents job to teach their kids not to blindly follow the rules. I mean they should understand that in general rules are for the greater good but should never be taken as verbatim.

. Cannot have alcohol disguised in it via scent.

I used to work for an LEA with some really deprived inner city schools on their books. Not once did I hear of a case of alcohol being smuggled in via disguised squash.

Oh dear, do we have to go into the breakdown of the calories, the amount of fat and salt in comparison?

I'm not saying it is a healthy option but it is not a fatburger from maccy d's with a side serving of salt.

Oh and using just a cheeseburger in comparison to a 6" sub is silly, at least use a 1/4lb'er, which then tips the kcals over 800.
Oh, and I used the chicken n bacon as an example as it is the highest kcal sub, remember that a steak and cheese or random other could be only 300-500kcal with even less fat again.

A 6" baguette with chicken and bacon made at home would not be healthier to a significant degree that it makes the blindest bit of difference, for me it would actually be worse as i would put more chicken and more bacon in!

Ah lol, looks like everyone else picked you up on your comment too. Good work people lol. Anyway, off to get a footlong chicken n bacon flatbread nom nom.

Anyone eating over 800kcal a meal deserves to die a fatty death, oh dear lol.

Right it was me that posted that comment on my brothers account. For a start the fries versus crisp easily balances out sub vs burger. Secondly i couldnt be bothered breaking it down completely but here you go!

Subway - Fat 29.1g, salt 1.4g

Mcdonalds - Fat 28g, salt 2.1g

So again no difference. I already said i chose subway over any of the others but you have to be stupid to think its any healthier than other fast food options. All the nutritional info is clearly available. Just irks me that people think its the healthy option, bit like people drinking diet coke to be healthy!

No it doesn't balance out at all as who realistically goes in and has a small cheeseburger and chips? And like I said, I choose the worst sub of the lot, plenty of them are a few hundred kcal and much more less fat.

Also, diet drinks aren't less healthy than full sugar ones?

I'm not sure which case your arguing?

Either way, your people can believe what you want but it is fact that Subway is not a healthy meal.

About diet coke. There is less sugar and calories but there is plenty of other bad stuff in there. It won't make you fat but it certainly won't do you any good.

Some people think Subway is healthy, when in reality it just isn't as unhealthy, gram for gram, as McDonalds.

So both are unhealthy, McD's just more so.

Haha so much rage in this thread. Don't have any kids but my niece lives with me. She's only allowed a bit of non-water drinks during meal times but only water at any other part of the day. She never complains or has any express hate for water.

She only really wants the other stuff when she sees the grown up adults drinking it - guess I should set a proper example and drink water too eh?

We had a water fountain but i guess these are not around anymore? Probably for the best. There was always the scuzzy kid who stick his whole gob around the shoot and sucked the water our. Pretty gross thinking about it now.

Anyway i agree with everyone in this thread. Kids only get a taste for something if you give it to them in the first place. If my girls have squash it's a treat and they know it. Same as with chocolate. I can also understand the problem though for a parent who has brought their child up drinking squash (i dont see this as a problem) as making them switch at that point is not easy. Introducing a policy like this mid way through a term is bad management of the situation.

I'd also repeat my original statement - i assume the teachers are only on water also. No tea and coffee for them?

We only started having squash at home because I didn't like the taste of plain water (too metallic) tho the fountain at school must have been filtered coz I never minded that. (or maybe our water supply at home was nasty). Neither of my parents drink squash.

Thanks for the concern but I am lucky enough to have children that would rather pick having a subway over a McDonalds .

People just not understanding that he doesn't like water but if that is all that is there and we have been out in the sun for hours he would drink the water to hydrate himself but I will not have this choice forced upon my child .

All the people saying but when he gets older he has to do what people put in rules then you will have children that work in Mcdonalds saying "would you like fries with that" as that's what they have been told ! Rather than a child that/young man that offers solutions and challenges things .

But in the real world situation I would not force him to drink something he doesn't like as that is just not fair when he is given a choice . This is what I am trying to find out if they have taken away his choice unfairly as I believe every child/person should have a choice in every situation without having something forced upon them .

Jesus!

I don't understand, why can't you compromise with him? Eg, Breakfast - Milk/fresh juice, School - Water, Tea - squash/water

I agree with Skywalker, if we don't pander to kids every desire we will end up with a load of people who can only work at maccy d's. On the other hand from what I have seen, the best way to raise well behaved balanced children is to let them do what they like.

Kids make a big deal about everything because there is little of importance in their lives. My mum made dinners I didn't really like and I ate them because I would be hungry otherwise. She didn't ever have juice in the house even though I much preferred juice to water. I drank water. I whinged for 10 minutes then forgot about it.

If not drinking juice is that much of a big deal to your kid then you have cocked up somewhere along the line.

What is there to compromise ? He doesn't like the taste of water so I will not force it upon him

Cant understand how some people are so dumb to not realise he is still drinking water , I don't understand why so negative against it , He drinks everything else and eats everything now including tomatoes as he had them on a pizza cooked with oil on them but not raw so it is not as if he refuses .

I drank squash more or less exclusively at home, but have never had an issue with tap water.

We were banned from fizzy drinks (except when at restaurants, parties etc..) though. Maybe the kids who don't like water drink too much coke?

Well, at least he's eating pizza cooked in oil now. That's an ... improvement?

Yeah because he is so fat  If you took it for one second the whole pizza was cooked in a tray with an inch of oil rather than a drizzle I suggest you take yourself to some cookery classes
