I'm a Villa fan here, and who actually would be pleased at paying £25m+ for Benteke? Arsenal fans? Spurs, Chelsea fans...give me your opinions.

As a Spurs fan I'd like to see him playing for us next season, but I think £20m would be my upper limit if it was up to me.

Aparantly Sunderland have signed Giaccherini from Juventus. Juventus midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini has accepted a transfer to Sunderland worth €8m (£6.9m)

I saw him play a little in the confed cup and he seemed ok. He's been at Juve a couple of seasons as well so he can't be all that bad!

i don't think we should go to £20m. he's had one (well 90%) of a good season. it's not hard to look like a standout striker at villa.

i'm not totally cold on the idea but if we're looking to spend this kind of cash, there has to be better options? if it was a deal that was <£15m and got rid of 1 or 2 players in p/x, i'd welcome it. villa are within their rights to double their cash/risk and he has 3 yrs on his contract.

i'm not even sure now if he'd suit our system. if we're after this kind of striker, i'd rather we went after lukaku who would be less and is younger.

Then lets hope Chelski go for Benteke and decided to want to cash in on Lukaku :D

How would Lukaku be less?

He cost Chelsea nearly £17million in initial outlay two years ago, they aren't going to sell for less (or anywhere near that fee, really) when he's quite clearly got a lot of talent.

nearly £17m?! wow. i did not know that. scratch that then levy!

Standard Liege wing-back Daniel Opare claims he is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, following reported interest from the north London outfit.

The 22-year-old, who spent two years at the Real Madrid academy earlier in his career, has caught the attention of new Spurs director of football Franco Baldini, according to Sky Sports. The Italian is understood to have recommended the Ghana international to Andre Villas-Boas, who is now considering an approach for the player.

Opare can operate on either flank of the back four. Tottenham are reportedly in the market for a left-back to provide cover and completion to Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Opare has admitted his interest in joining the ranks at White Hart Lane and urged Spurs to agree on a fee with Liege.

"I am flattered by the interest of Spurs. They are a very good team in England I will jump at the chance to join them if they reach an agreement with my current club," the defender pointed out.

"I know there is a long way to go yet and also the level in England is a lot higher than in Belgium, but I think I can play there at a good level. If I get the chance to play for a team like Tottenham I will take it," he added.

Opare spent three season with Liege after joining the Belgian side in 2010 from Madrid. Spurs' archrivals Arsenal were previously linked with a move for the player.

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale has stated his focus is on helping Tottenham qualify for the Champions League next season.

The Welshman has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid ever since the end of last season. However, the 23-year-old has now dropped a big hint that will not leave White Hart Lane this summer, despite previously admitting an interest in a transfer to Spain.

"I think that everyone at the club wants us to finish in the top four, the club wants to be in the top four and we need to go one better this season and finish in the top four," Bale stressed.

How much did you think he cost ?

It was reported to be something like £13million to Anderlecht, £4million or something to his family and then clauses taking it above £20million.

He was wanted by most top clubs and was a very sought after youngster. It seems people think he hasn't done anything at all ever and is just some total randomer!

Not that he was top goalscorer in the Belgian league at 16 (or 17) and other various things.

If, as reported, they've been after or in for Cavani, Rooney & possibly Benteke, it doesn't look like he sees Lukaku as main man material.

He's still very young though, he could still be used in squad rotation system, even WBA didn't play him that often, he scored a lot coming off the bench. We don't know that Jose doesn't want him?

the reason i didn't think he was that much was because of how he doesn't seem to be very high in the pecking order. torres, signing ba, moses, loaned out to wba and now their interest in cavani and benteke? i thought he had cost a lot less than that and was a bit of a hidden gem.

I don't understand why Mourinho wouldn't want him, he's like a mini-giant version of Drogba

I know you love him but from what I've seen he's been very much hit and miss. He proved a fantastic impact sub last season with his pace and power up against tiring defenses.

I think Mourinho's said he wants him but if they're really after a big name striker, maybe he only sees him as a squad player to begin with.

edit: Andy copied me and then edited my post to make it seem like his post was first.

"PSV technical director Marcel Brands has said only Roma – and not United – have made expressed an interest in signing Kevin Strootman, who he insists is not for sale: “Roma have contacted us to tell us that they are interested in Kevin Strootman. We have told Roma that Strootman is not for sale and only an important offer could convince us otherwise. In our opinion, Roma is the only club to be interested in Strootman, but they have made no offer.”

Looks like Roma are the only club that have made an offer for Strootman.

Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been urged to turn down United by Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque, who is keen for the youngster to remain in his homeland: “The most important thing for Thiago is that he keeps getting games,” the World Cup winning coach is widely quoted in the British press. “There are other options, but I think he will get them at Barcelona, he is held in a very high regard at the club.”

So the most important thing is to get games...so he should stay somewhere where he isn't getting games?

At least you realise now, I keep chuckling at some of the West Ham bloggers and fanzines, some of them are convinced it's possible that West Ham can get Lukaku. An idea that began as a plausible (Mourinho always liked Fat Sam's Bolton) loan and got out of control.

... a very sought after youngster. It seems people think he hasn't done anything at all ever and is just some total randomer!
Bet he regrets joining Chelsea now.
I doubt he regrets Chelsea for one second, Chelsea is the club he loves. Lukaku always wanted Chelsea from age ~14 or younger and idolises Drogba, even when he was sought after there was no doubt at all where he was going to end up. If Drogba comes back to Chelsea in 2014/15 as an ambassador/coach/some other not yet defined role that would be perfect for Lukaku.

The only bad thing for Lukaku at Chelsea was AVB, obviously not a problem now.

A lot of people don't know that Lukaku was a priority signing for Mourinho the first time he was at Chelsea, and the rumour mill often said Mourinho then tried to get Lukaku at Inter and then Real! The idea that Chlesea would sell him know is pretty far fetched.

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of landing Manchester United winger Nani have been given a boost after Anzhi Makhachkala rebuffed suggestions they were interested.

Anzhi chairman Konstantin Remchukov has declared that rumours linking his club to a £15 million move for the player are false.

In addition, SportsNews Direct claims another rival, Roma, have turned their attention to PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Spurs are understood to be preparing an offer for the Portuguese to take up Gareth Bale’s wide berth so allowing the Welshman to play in a central position.

who needs a striker? bale is the man for the job!

Brilliant, thanks Del Bosque. He wants to get game time to prove himself for the world cup and the guy picking the squad tells him to stay where he is if he wants the best chance.
