Talkmobile number porting

My girlfriend bought a new phone on a Talkmobile contract with the intention to transfer her orange pay as you go number to it after she had used the remaining credit balance.

We have just read that you cant port your old number to Talk Mobile if you havent done it when purchased.

We are livid about this as i can't remember this being made clear at any point during the purchase of the phone, and besides, what a stupid rule. What if she didnt like the phone, she then would have lost her orange pay as you go sim/number.

Every other provider seems to allow you to port your number after connection except Talk Mobile?

Is this even legal/abiding by the ofcom rules?

Has anyone else had success in porting their number over to Talkmobile?

Same as Vodafone, aren't Talkmobile piggy backing them too?

I assume you're out of the cancellation period?

Vodafone let you port whenever you want :confused:

I just signed up to vodafone and ported my number over weeks after connection with no problems

This must be new then because they never used to when I was with them.

Signed my mum up to a Talkmobile contract through mobiles.co.uk and it was made very clear indeed on there.

We did it through carphone warehouse online, and whilst it does say it in their faq, i dont remember ever seeing it mentioned through the order process.

Regardless of that, i don't see any reason why they wouldnt/can't port it over after when every other mobile provider can? :confused:

Also, what if you didnt want to leave your previous contract at the time of ordering the new phone. What if the new phone/contract is rubbish and you want to quit during the cooling off period. You cant go back to your old contract/sim because you have already ported the number over and cancelled.

I might write a letter to ofcom. I think people complaining to ofcom about vodafone doing it ages ago forced vodafone to change it and let you port whenever you want ( from reading moneysavingexpert forum)
