I don't think he was digging at you. A century with those average speeds is phenomenal; he's saying that tomorrow his legs won't work.

The joke is he averaged 24mph or whatever over 100m. Tomorrow he's going to see how he gets on with a longer distance.

I don't know the "tomorrow I'm going to try and go more than 100 metres ;)"
Seems aimed at me as if I mansged 20mph avg over 100 metres.

anyway theres a screenshot above showing one of the paths going across the moor for 2 miles or so look how flat it is....

You guys could probably do 30mph avg eash doing laps around the moor paths

I think you're overestimating speeds. I doubt any of us could average 30mph over any appreciable distance on the flat. Maybe touch or Berger or one of the other guys who races.

Not even close.

Fully kitted up on my TT bike with aerobars, skinsuit, pointy helmet, aero overshoes, etc i can average just under 26mph over 10 miles.

20mph sounds fairly quick for somebody new to cycling to do on a hybrid. Are you sure it's not 20kmph? (if it gave your total in kilometres its likely to give speed in the same way?). It's not impossible though, especially on a flat road, so you could be right.

Sitting at 20mph is pretty easy but doing that as an average over a bigger distance gets harder.

I think I'm 'ok' and been cycling for a few years and averaged about 18mph over 58 miles.

Fraser I'm sure looking at Strava you averaged about 31.9mph over the 5 miles from the end of the clunche road down the 77. Was chatting to Graham Mercer from Icarus racing today about the race and said you guys were shifting and he was ******!

All this talk of average speed is making me think I'll have to do a flat run this week and see how I get on. Sounds like a plan for Thursday, as Tuesday is booked out for hills with Damien.

Yeah, i was in the break there, i think there was 7-8 of us and we were all working pretty well together. That, combined with a tailwind and a decent surface, meant the speed along that section was really high.

My pb is 20mph over 52 miles with a group of 3 of us.

Today we done a similar route plus a 20% hill and we managed 15 average in this heat. It really makes you appreciate how the pros do it

Oh my word, mate just let me know he's doing theMagnifiicat Sportive tomorrow.
(80 miles)

Not a chance in hell in this heat...
