These will give you an upgrade path up at an 3770K at a later date and I have including a much better graphics card then what is built into the APU.

I would like an AMD build if anyone can do that. I have a good feeling it will be cheaper, seeing as AMD does decent parts at decent prices.

That FX build would be improved massively if you selected the FX-6300 instead. The trouble is you'd probably have to spend a little bit more on the motherboard to ensure it's good enough, one about £60.

A budget gaming system is fine with 4gb however, 8gb is a luxury on a tight budget.

An example:

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Sapphire HD 7750 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £79.99
1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £59.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £49.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £35.99
1 x Cooler Master Elite Power 500W Power Supply £34.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
Total : £404.45 (includes shipping : £17.10).

Plus OS cost (you can get Win 7 OEM quite cheaply if you shop around)

Richland is good for a smaller budget, but can't begin to compete with an FX-6300 and 7750 - which is certainly doable with £500.

If you wanted to push the spec I made up a little, I'd look at a 7790 (£99), possibly a better PSU, and a reasonably good cooler (£20 would do it).

Wait, what is Richland? Is it like a CPU type or something or is it another website?

Sorry - Richland and Trinity are the names of AMD processors that include a graphics processor. They're cheap and perform well, but a 7750 is way ahead of the best one.

Here's a slightly higher cost spec:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7790 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £99.95
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £59.99
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply £55.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £49.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £35.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x Xigmatek Gaia CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775 / 1150 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM3 / FM1) £19.99
Total : £458.98 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Buying a Richland APU and a 7750 wouldn't be ideal - you'd be paying for a good integrated GPU you're not using (and Crossfire isn't properly supported above an HD6670). It'd be better to get an Athlon X4 760K, which is a Richland core without the GPU.

The Richland processors don't compare very well to the FX-6300 in gaming performance though, and the FX-6300 can be pushed even to 5GHz.

Not sure that comparing a specially built hex-core with a specially built APU is really the way to look at it. Yes they are both CPU's but they are both completely different. The FX doesn't have graphics support while the APU is designed for this purpose and produces very good results if you choose the right components.

You can crossfire the A10-6800k with a 7750 and it plays quite nicely.

I know they're different, that's why I am recommending one over the other. The APUs do offer good results, but even the best one (6800K) cannot compete with an FX-6300 in terms of CPU performance, and each combined with a discrete card the 6300 is way ahead and cheaper. That's why I said if you want to go with Richland it would make sense to get the Athlon 760K because you are not paying for integrated graphics, thus saving money.

(It may be possible to get a 7750 in crossfire with an APU, but AMD doesn't support that.)

THEY DO!

It even says it on the OCUK website, amoung other places:

Specification:-
- 2 cores (Dual Core technology)
- 3.90GHz Stock speed
- 4.10GHz Turbo speed
- 1MB Cache
- Multiplier Unlocked (Great for overclocking)
- 65W TDP
- Onboard IGP: HD 8470D, 800MHz Core speed, 192 Stream Processors
- Hybrid Crossfire Capable with HD 6670 / HD 7750
- 3yr Warranty

I get really annoyed with people who talk before they think..
