With all the Zimmerman stuff going on at the moment, and all the advocates against stand your ground, coming out of the woodwork. This is the reason, this law needs to stay.
 
the reason it needs to go is because people are getting away with murder..

the law is like that film dred.. if you suspect someones burgled a house next door but are not really sure, you still have a right to shoot them in the head and you'll get away with it. thats crazy.

if she had a gun handy and used it, she would have got away with it because he's in the house beating her up.

if that happened in the uk and she stabbed him, she'd have got away with it..

the stand your ground law is stupid.
 
What do people think happens when someone like this breaks into your house, this is nothing special (for the US and the UK). Normally you just don't get a video, just a picture of the bruised homeowner.

And why is the 'Stand your ground' law being mentioned in this context? This would be the same in the UK, you would be allowed to defend yourself (if she had a gun then maybe she could have done the same)

He's not talking about the state but of the likelihood of a serious weapon escalating a situation.

My parents lived abroad a few years back, with my old man working internationally. The villa got broken into a few times, really sentimental stuff taken and of course much upset damage hassle, and it got my mum worried about the safety of her and the kids when home alone. When I arrived that year I was asked to settle a dispute between them about getting a revolver for the safe in the bedroom, so that mum could get all gangsta on the would be invaders. I thought on it for a while, but quickly concluded that it would only ever be a bad idea ultimately. She trusted me on that, even though I wasn't exactly on hand for her. That's a personal judgement call largely from the gut, but I'm confident there would be strong evidence to back this up in the bigger picture.

Pretty sickening. I'm glad that this has been shown, people tend to forget or willfully blank out from their minds what actually happens when such crimes are committed, which is especially true in the UK where everything on mainstream media is heavily censored.

I don't intend to use this as a case for owning firearms for self-defence, but animals like this need to be deterred in some way, just like you'd deter vermin from your household.

Hope this scumbag gets prosecuted to the fullest extent.
