Tottenham are in danger of missing out on a striker for the second time in less than a week as Liverpool close in on Roberto Soldado, reports the London Evening Standard.

That would be incredible - I can't remember the last time we actually had two goalscoring strikers at the club. Fowler and Owen?

Arsenal need a minimum of two transfers this week for me to settle down a little!
Gervinho out and Higuain in would be fine!

Barcelona have rejected United's new bid for Fabregas... Fellaini's Dad awaits the call. :D

Don't forget, the source of all these reports, including the initial one from the vice president saying Fabregas 'was not transferrable' are also from the newspaper that delivered this (and fuelled all rumours that it was a done deal):

We are looking like wasting our time pursuing completely unrealistic targets and will find ourselves with the same team we have now come the end of the window. We have a team plenty capable of competing for the title but I don't imagine we will win it without at least a few additions.

Buttner isn't good enough and Evra has been sub par for years but I haven't heard anything about Baines lately. Is Fabio getting better. Rafael was a little beast last year but Fabio seems to have been left behind rather.

I just can't see the Cesc deal going through. He has not come out and said he wants a move away (took him several seasons to finally declare he wanted back to the club where he grew up), Barce don't want to sell him, I doubt he'd actually join Man Utd.
Think they are wasting their time, but who knows nowadays.

He hasn't come out and said he won't either.

There are evidently some signs for the club to keep bidding, you wouldn't go back for more if you were told categorically 'No, the player won't move under any circumstances', and now their apparent stance is 'No decision will be made until the new coach is in'.

Everyone said they doubted that Van Persie would join, but he did.

The rumours all started because Barca DO need the money (this is what every report Ive read about Thiago and Fabregas' transfers are based on).

Yes they have just spent £50~m on a forward, but I cant believe for one second that the club are so desperate for funds (even if they do need /want a new CB) that they need to get back another ~£30m after the Thiago sale to BM to buy their CB of choice.

Of course they may also have to pay a release fee for the new manager as well, but is that likely to be very high (in comparison to the cost of a new player) , I doubt it very much.

Would be fabulous if they were desperate to sell for this reason, unfortunately I cant see it being likely.

I'm sure that we could get Fabregas if we put in a huge bid but we are not. We are not even putting in offers that would make them think twice. Just because they have not shut us down completely doesn't mean that they are not just tagging us along. If we put in a 40m plus bid I would say we are getting to the point they would seriously have to consider our offer. We are 10m off that by all accounts.

I know there is still a fair while left of the window but clubs will be starting to want to keep their players and prepare for the new season. The longer you leave it the more a club can demand if they think you are desperate. RvP was a strange one last year but he had a year on his contract, we bid a lot considering that and RvP wanted to come to United.

Cesc doesn't seem bothered to come to us, he has a good few years on his contract and we have thus far made 2 rather embarrassing offers.

From what I have heard Utd have offered £30m upfront + add ons totalling another £5m

(unless you are meaning £40m upfront)

Either way its within "lets sit down and negotiate" rather than "come back with a better bid" imo

I dont think they are that embarrasing - no less than Chelsea offering £20m for Rooney lol

Seeing as Guus Hiddink is likely to take over at Barca, id be very surprised if he says sell Fabregas as he is still pretty important to them.

Another name being linked to Arsenal is Luis Gustavo of Bayern, again probably rumours at best. Would not mind him at Arsenal, he did well for Bayern last season and hasnt been too bad for Brazil.

Wenger is also expected to seek a defensively minded midfielder before the end of the transfer window. And the Daily Mirror believes that Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo is now being pursued. The Brazilian international looks set to find his first-team opportunities limited next season with Bayern’s already stacked midfield being recently augmented by the arrival of Thiago Alcantara. A fee of £15 million could be enough to secure the 25-year-old former Hoffenheim man, reports the Mirror.

We should be so lucky, what will happen is we will wait till the end of the transfer window, make a few last desperate signings and thats it...none of those signings will be world class or decent players....its the Arsenal way:p:D
