Hey guys, am looking at applying for "Genius" at my local apple store, does anyone know how the pay for this kind of role is? I fancy a change of pace from my current employment.

I'd PREFER to work in the corporate sector in development, but I doubt there's anything UK based for that :(

Please let me know if any of you have any insight to Apple careers :)

Not much above minimum wage, I'd imagine? It's shop work after all.

Why not?

From what I know (which isn't much tbh), it's better than minimum wage, but you're still talking Retail customer service, pretty much. I guess there are tiers of genius, but I can't imagine it goes much about tier 1-2 IT support...

That's a hell of a difference...!

low end tech support in a shop... £7... for a mega corporation? I bet they advertise £7.50 per hour but then expect overtime for nothing...

I imagine it's as soul destroying as every other retail job where you're dealing with customers who will tolerate you at best and actively dislike you at worst.

The use of the term 'genius' is in hilarious juxtaposition to the pay so I can only guess that this is Apple masochistically engaging with their minimum wage staff.

XD haha, yeah the thought crossed my mind - I'm in B2B technical account management at the moment, but did a year in retail - and I'm pretty sure a big bang theory episode ripped into the "Genius" thing :P

The Job titled "Overlord" is actually a Janitor...

Apple geniuses are nothing what the name suggests. They xouldnt tell if a phone had a 3rd party repair if it was to save their life.

That's not the case. On average after bonuses, someone who has been there for a year or so will be earning in the high £20,000s.

Maybe if they were doing 60+ hours a week.

When I worked on the technical support, we had loads of guys (apple nuts) leave the technical support and go to the store which has just opened. We had a trainer come supervisor who was on about £17-18k, he had to take a pay cut and was actually one of the higher up "Genius". He's had training in Cork, and knows pretty much everything when it comes to Apple products...

Whereas the rest went into the retail and sales side of things, and they got slightly more, as we were only on £10k on the tech support!!!

You’ll need to be flexible with your schedule. Your work hours will be based on business needs.
I assume this means; "say goodbye to your weekends and evenings, because that's when the business needs are greatest".

Friend of mine works for Apple and he's always touting work for front end developers, if that's the kind of development you mean..
