Tesco really taking the mick

I dont see too much wrong with it tbh, i mean its in their car park. I'm surprised u need permission to add a marquee to your own car park.

+7

I guess that you would have a right to moan if the car park was full because of those ten places taken up by the marquee.

Got to agree with the OP on this - how dare they do such a thing that has a negligible effect on everyone! Next thing we know they'll be displaying posters and billboards for their own products in their own car park!!

Down with this sort of thing!

I know they own the land, but if they thought it was such a good idea then why not apply for the permission before hand..

Great idea! Apply for permission beforehand and wait until the summer's over for it to be granted.

With that sort of business acumen you should apply to be Tesco CEO.

Do they have tills in the Marquee or do you have to go inside to pay for your purchases? Plenty of supermarkets near me have been putting summery stuff outside the front oftheir stores in the past couple of weeks.

What about 'local' stores that shove their **** on the pavement whenever its sunny and block half the way

From the OP I thought they had put a marquee up in a council-owned car park that was closer to the sea, not in their own car park which is a fair way out of town…

I bet no one would have even batted an eye lid if they'd just sold the stuff inside the shop as usual so what's the issue

Slow news in North Devon.

I remember seeing a headline when I lived in Bideford about someone tipping a bin up and the rubbish being everywhere in the High St.

:D

If you guys see this as totally fine now in England then we are truly done for.
Though we knew that anyway. :)

People hate Tesco for their ability to get a store in just about anywhere they want, yet people shop at Tesco because it's convenient.

Err.

I hope they get slammed, they don't care about ruining peoples livelihoods or fair business practise, bunch of *********.

It's called fair trading, and we have guidelines they must abide by just as every other business.

And how exactly is opening a stall in their own car park, at most a couple of hundred metres away from their main store "ruining people's livelihoods" or "unfair business practice" any more than their usual modus operandi?

Might wanna get rid of that sweary btw...

My beef is how they're using retrospective planning laws to do something that they'd be banned from doing (that's my assumption).

I bet that this marquee will disappear once the holidays are over and before it goes before a planning committee.
