How often are people getting booster packs on steam?

I know the drop rate is based on a number of things but just wondering if anyone has received any and how often for which games.

I haven't received any yet but it's really only been a few days.

I've had two in two weeks.

Have probably maxed out the drop limit for only 5 games (i don't know if that affects the drop chance).

I assume the drop chance updates weekly, because Steam advises to log in at least once a week to be eligible for free booster packs.

I don't really get how those booster packs work. I thought it was something to do with a game getting an update once you've maxed out the free card drops?

I received one booster pack when I hit Level 10, and have seen nothing since.

As I am not bothered with leveling each badge (beyond the two that I have) multiple times by spending money, I am now waiting for these fabled booster packs to drop...no idea when to expect one :/

I got one near the start, maybe two weeks ago and then one last week for Surgeon Simulator (hilarious game), I'm at level 19.

I haven't gotten anything yet. Although some people are all ready well over level 100's.

I've maxed out the drops for quite a few games all ready and not gotten anything.

One thing which increasingly disturbs me about Steam is the fact that whole threads can turn up about it without me understanding a word of them! :-)

I've had 2 so far, one for FTL and one for The Walking Dead...

Some accounts must have pretty much just spent £100s on cards because when you look at their badges they aquire all 5 levels of a badge plus the foil badge pretty much the same day as that game's badges are first released... Half the time they don't even own most of the games they have the badges for

I mean I do get that it's kinda neat having a few profile backgrounds for games you particularly like and bothered to trade for the cards for, but I can't understand the mentality above

Don't forget you can also get plenty of game discount coupons. Some people, especially those that are over level 100, also own over 1000 games.

This chap was only level 132 yesterday. He's all ready gained three more levels since then and has a massive games collection and level 5 badges in droves.

Exactly my point... so as I see it there can only be 2 explanations:

1. This guy pretty much has spent a fortune on the community marketplace to buy up all those badges, which is an absolutely disgraceful waste of money - I just can't understand what would posess someone to do this

OR

2. The guy is one of the TF2 idlers with 1,000s of alternate accounts and has used his gigantic TF2 fortune to instantly trade to get all the cards + badges - This I suppose is better since at least it's just TF2 money effectively which was aquired for free

lol, I've no idea what these booster packs are either. My inventory currently has 0 cards in it, since when I get one I just put it up for sale = free money for more cheap game purchases :D

Exactly, it's most likely a mix of both 1, and 2.

Once you have enough badges and levels you get more coupons, and more booster packs. Which he can then sell or trade. So it encourages you to have higher levels to earn more booster packs, which get more badges, which up your level. So the cycle repeats.

This means that these people can end up funding their games collections/trading for free in the end, and actually end up making money later on. All with just a €100 investment in the trading card beta or at the start of the steam sale, along with TF2 item trading.

Personally I stopped playing TF2 before items appeared, I got burnt out by it.

I did get a 50% off killing floor coupon, which I used yesterday to buy the game and play with friends. I got enough cards to trade, got more badges and 2 more 50% off coupons.

It's all brilliant business move by Valve to encourage greater sales, plus the Community Market is gold mine for them, even with just skimming off 1-2 cents off each sale.

Im sure I read somewhere higher level gave higher chance but I think it capped at double or something.

That guy above at 131+ mustve thrwn a whole load of cash into steam tbh

Better yet, who has any foil cards? I'm level 12 now so I'm eligible yet have had 30 or so standard card drops since leveling up and nothing.
