The transfer window this year has been nothing short of embarrassing for a united fan, what a complete bunch of bumbled rubbish. Would not be surprised if we sign no one and end up going into the season much weaker than we finished last.

Whilst I normally believe we should stay strong in the face of adversity this last month has not been what I hoped after Fergerson retired.

I expected a new fresh approach, a strong confident manager and some signature signings.

Not a manager who every 5 minutes talks about inexperienced he is and not a renewed confidence in the players I thought would be first out the door, I.e. Wellbeck and Cleverley.

I really don't get Utd, they needed a strong start for Moyes. Fergie has known he's going for ages. He should have been talking with Moyes, scouting some talent, and sorting out a bunch of deals to push through really quickly to undercut any uncertainty around losing Fergie. Basically line up 2 big name deals and a bunch of talented youngsters, complete 5 signings in the first month, with a couple seriously strengthening the squad and anyone who was worried about Utd would stop.

Instead they've got uncertainty, failure, ineptitude and frankly they look like they've put a couple of amateurs heading up a hugely valuable company. No one in their right mind should have gone after Fabregas in this window, particularly not based off media BS about how Cesc isn't first team and is playing badly when ANYONE who has actually watched La Liga knows its utter BS.

This is a club with so much power they could have put signings on a platter for a new manager to walk in and have but they choose to pee around with stupid attempts to sign unavailable players.

You wanted a manager to come in and stamp his authority(even if it was gift wrapped by the club or even Fergie) have some new players, cut a few guys who have failed to perform, make it clear its the new managers team rather than 99% Fergie's team... without Fergie.

Then to cap off Moyes looking like an amateur he publically says he'll be relying on Giggs to help him through Champs league games due to his own inexperience, great message to send out to the fans and players who might sign. Moyes doesn't think himself competant so will rely on a player with no managerial or coaching experience to speak of... vote of confidence if you ever heard one.

WHile I like Moyes and respect what he was doing on a small budget... I thought his appointment was very odd and the absolute lack of strength, direction, leadership, common sense he has shown since taking over should have Utd fans very worried.

I agree 100% with that. Moyes really isn't doing himself any favours, but then I guess the people above him aren't exactly helping either

Your missing a huge point though with Moyes, Man U/SA and Moyes himself know he's not the finished article as a manager. I don't what is wrong with having Gigg's helping you out when he more experienced. It's not embarrasing to ask for help. I thought you realised DM that this is a transition period for United.

This, the board obviously are running around like headless chickens, this transfer window is very stale, people aren't moving clubs, the top players that Man U need anyway. Bit of Catch 22 with Moyes, they need a signing to shut the arm chair know it alls up but whoever he signs will be under huge scrutiny, the board havent done any favours what so ever.

I get the impression that Fergie believes he has left an excellent young squad. DeGea, Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Cleverley, Wellbeck (who Fergie clearly liked), Kagawa, Zaha, Hernandez. All young players who Ferguson clearly believes will be the future of the club. He didn't go out and sign big names before going as he had "potentially the best player Utd have ever had" in Phil Jones, and "the new Ronaldo" in Zaha.

I agree, however, that he's left Moyes in a bit of a dilemma as the younger players, except Rafael, Hernandez and De Gea are still leaving a lot to be desired, and the older players apart from RvP and Carrick are playing nowhere near their best.

Moyes is going to have a difficult year or two. If he gets through it, he could win an awful lot at United, but without signing some top class players soon this season will be a real struggle.

I think a huge gap is going to unfold though with reality for Man U fans and the success they have had in the past. For the last 3/4 years, you could argue Chelsea and City have both being undermanaged, they most likely would have won the league if they had managerial stability within the club. Arsenal haven't spent as much as well, had they? again...the situation could be different.

As painful as it is, I think you're correct. I honestly don't see how we can possibly keep up with Chelsea and City. I mean Look at City, £90m on FOUR players. One or Two of them aren't even 'key' players.

Nothing wrong with a transition period, but what signs of transition to something good are there. A manager who goes after a player he can't get... when he could be buying someone useful to help make the team his own?

As I pointed out, he could have sorted out the new manager 6 months ago and be looking for youngsters to buy, sort out quickly and get going with fresh blood in the direction he wants early. Instead he's joined, seems clueless about who he wants, and has put all his attention into one player who is completely uninterested. Sitting around waiting for a miracle doesn't look like transition to me, it looks like at best treading water, realistically getting worse with Scholes gone, Giggs about to start collecting his pension.

Asking for help from Giggs... absolutely nothing wrong with that, though, why not ask Fergie, or another manager. Who says Giggs has the slightest clue how to help him managerially, the point being why in a press conference when being asked about it would you even entertain the premise you have no experience? Why would you say "I have no experience, but Giggs(who has no experience that I need) can tell me where the bathrooms are at some european stadiums I've yet to visit". How is that enticing players to the club through a show of confidence and leadership. It just sounds like a manager out of his depth saying, if you want champs league football.... I hope you like Giggs being in charge because I have no clue what I'm doing. I would never in a million years say that publically in a press conference, I might curl up in a ball and cry in my office begging Giggs to hold me in fear.... but to say that in a press conference is laughable.

An appropriate response would be... Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Utd amongst others have played in the champs league, most of those very regularly, most of those teams have won games and 3 of them have won the champions league, I've played them all before, ultimately the champions league is football, nothing more or less, I've been a manager for 10 + years, I have huge experience..... Then he might sound like the manager of the biggest team in England, currently he sounds like the Everton manager.... actually he sounds more like the manager of Grimsby at the moment.

i apologise for the sun link and i confess i bought a paper copy of the sun this morning to read this. paul jiggins is one of the laziest journalists there is and he must be using marca as his compass. utter tripe. he even has the gaul to do a bs q&a

GARETH BALE was just as direct in his approach when he met Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy as when he goes for goal.
The Wales international had questions to ask and demanded straight answers when he came face-to-face with Levy earlier this month.
Bale was in no mood to hang about, in no mood to play games — and in no mood to take ‘no’ for an answer.
He wanted to know why Spurs were reneging on an understanding to let him move on if a ‘mind- blowing’ offer came in.
Real had dropped a bid of £81million on the Tottenham table only to be told it was in the bin almost as soon as it landed.
It is claimed in Spanish paper Marca — acknowledged as a mouthpiece for Madrid — that Bale told Levy: “You made me a promise. You promised me if we didn’t qualify for the Champions League and a good offer turned up, you’d listen to it.
“Well, that offer has arrived and I want to play for Real Madrid. So keep your word and negotiate.”
If a world-record £81m offer was not a ‘mind-blowing’ offer, then nothing was to a player who is under contract until 2016.
On offer at Real Madrid are wages of around £160,000 a week for the next six years — £2m a year more than the new deal Spurs are putting together.
But it is not money that is motivating Bale — just a burning desire to compete at the highest possible level.
The Welsh wizard has become the hottest property in football following a sensational season in which he scored outstanding, match-changing goals that wowed the world.
He wants to parade his skills on the biggest stage possible and play with the finest global superstars.
While he has much to thank Tottenham for, he is adamant the time is right to move on.
And now it has become a war of wills between two men.
Chairman Levy has built a reputation as one of the toughest contract negotiators in the game but Bale was not intimidated when they met. As frank meetings go, this was one of the toughest.
There was no way Levy was going to settle for £81m and sources close to Bale have suggested the chairman will hold out for at least double.
Levy has played Russian roulette before when transferring some of Tottenham’s biggest stars and has always managed to squeeze out the best-possible deal.
When Dimitar Berbatov was sold to Manchester United for £30m, the Old Trafford board is understood to have asked to ‘factor’ the deal. It is a legal term for paying for expensive goods in instalments.
But Levy demanded — and got — the money in one hit.
Tottenham played hardball with Berba because it was claimed he was ready to go on strike unless he got his move to United.
Fans did not like the mercurial striker being sold on, they wanted Tottenham to prove they could resist big offers.
But when a player is determined to bail out, there is nothing to stop them.
After the drawn-out saga with Berbatov, former Spurs midfielder Luka Modric insisted he had a gentleman’s agreement that he could leave White Hart Lane if a substantial offer came in from a big club.
The Croatian midfielder eventually moved to Real Madrid for £30m after two offers from Chelsea were rejected.
Modric has consistently called for Bale to join him at the Bernabeu, much to the annoyance of back-room staff at the Lane.
Like Berbatov and Modric before him, it is understood Bale has also made it clear to Levy that he no longer sees his future in North London.

i have seen nothing concrete that rm have bid £81m but heck, if they have we can push them to £100m or why stop there, build us a new stadium madrid! just don't use spanish construction workers.

Q&A

SUNSPORT reporter PAUL JIGGINS weighs up the big Bale questions...
How much would it take to make Tottenham crack?
I’M surprised they haven’t already, to be honest.
An £81m bid is an awful lot of money for any club to turn down, especially one looking to build a new stadium and overhaul a squad at the same time.
But it is understood Spurs chairman Levy will demand at least double what Madrid have offered.
Would Bale give his best if he’s forced to stay?
BALE’S a pro. I don’t believe for a moment he would intentionally play badly if he was made to stay.
But nobody can predict what effect a long drawn-out saga would have.
He deserves huge credit for the way he’s handled the speculation. However, there must come a point when it starts to take toll.
Is he likely to go on strike?
I’D be stunned if he resorted to that.
But it’s no coincidence Bale is on tour with Spurs — and not playing in any games or even training.
That’s not striking and any kind of wildcat action would be extremely damaging to his reputation. This will be sorted in the boardroom, not the picket line!
Should Spurs sell while there’s time to buy others?
THAT’S the $6m question — or rather the £81m one.
Spurs could certainly do a lot of good with the money — fund a new stadium or bring in two or three top-quality players.
But where would they find another Bale?
He is so important to Tottenham’s team. He is virtually irreplaceable.
What’s the likely outcome now?
I WISH I knew! Until this week I was 100 per cent sure Bale would stay.
But the latest developments have changed that.
Spurs must be tempted but by insisting he is not for sale they have backed themselves into a corner.
They may now be working out how to escape from it without losing face.

We just need a spine. A fit Vidic, a new holding mid and a strong powerful forward to support RVP. We have pace in the wide areas, creative mids in Kagawa, Clev and Giggs and a future Spain #1 GK.

We'll be fine.... until RVP is out injured.

I don't think it's just man U that had an embarrassing window so far, none of the big EPL clubs have had a particularly product window in relation to their top targets/big names.
