So seems like Wenger/Arsenal from what im reading around are going to bide their time with Suarez.

The Gunners have already put in a £40,000,001 bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez but Wenger is relaxed about the lack of progress on the deal and is not expecting transfer activity ahead of the Emirates Cup next weekend.

"We are ready to do quick deals but all the transfers do not depend only on us," said Wenger, quoted in the Daily Mirror. "But we are prepared to wait. It looks unlikely before the Emirates Cup.

"We still have a strong squad but we are there on the market to try to strengthen our team. With or without additions we can be title challengers next season."

It actually scares me that Wenger really thinks our squad is strong enough to challenge for trophies...we are in no way, shape or form strong enough to compete against the likes of City, Chelsea and to some extent Utd.

Oh well i guess we will make do with our freebie Sanogo to help us win the title:p..as i said a few pages ago, it wouldnt surprise me if Wenger doesnt sign anyone this summer, his usual lame excuse will be there was no value in the transfer market. Looks like what i said earlier on in this thread seems to be coming true.

So much for the crap about £70mill to spend, looks like that is going straight into the greedy boards pockets as per usual...make it 9 yrs without any silverware come end of next season.

I like Verratti, I just don't think he would move, he's on a packet I imagine and him and Pastore are the kings of PSG at the minute aren't they?

He's probably considered nearly first team. The whole stuff is going on as apparently he wants a much higher wage and he isn't on 'much' in PSG terms at the minute.

What do you know about these three players?

As with most of the time, people fling names about constantly and it's just baseless dribbling. Drives me mad.

paulinho is one year older wnd miles better .

i'm not a fan of cleverly, i don't see what the fuss is about but paulinho is untested in the pl. however, with dembele next to him, sandro behind him and bale infront of him, i can only see positive things happening. fantastic energy, power and finishing from what i've seen. we paid circa £18m. could be a good bit of business.

of course, he could make no impact at all. there was a time when we had zokora and palacios in a destroy and play simple distribution role and we were incredibly hard to break down; they did a great job. both went drastically off the boil after one season.

I know Oscar is 2 years younger but miles better than cleverley paulinho is one year older wnd miles better .
I don't watch much eastern European leagues but I presume utd have qualified scouts in that department

I bet you've barely seen Paulinho play.

Wenger shouldn't have said that re the current squad, it's not going to challenge for a title unless you have a majestic season and everyone is on top form consistently.

I'm under the impression Arsenal believe they should get Suarez for £40m and a pound, and if Liverpool won't sell or the clause doesn't activate for that, there's no deal.

Thats why clubs have scouting networks, to identify people with potential and talent. We have all watched plenty of players come to the PL over the past few years and thought, why didn't we try and sign any of these players.

Its not our job to find good players, that is the clubs job. Why are they not delivering?

Exactly but then so far our pre-season has went pretty well, will be interesting to see how we do in the Emirates cup as i imagine we will have far more tougher sides to deal with than the far east sides:p.

Im hoping as i said before, that Giroud comes even better this season..hes been banging them in pre-season. But as usual im sure we will struggle for consistency as we normally do then the fans will get on his back, only for us to scrape into 4th place come the end of the season:p.

As for Suarez??, Liverpool have made it clear they are not going to sell him for less than what they value him at so no sense in biding our time with him. Forget him and move onto someone else, if there is anyone else available. ?But i fear we have left it too late to get someone in just as good or better than Suarez.

Anyhow lets see what happens, still a while before the transfer window closes so maybe, and im really hoping that Wenger has something up his sleeve but doesnt want to say anything. Looks like the Bernard rumours were just that, rumours so doesnt look likely we will be signing him or anyone else.

I really despair at Arsenal, we are told as fans we have £70mill to spend but havent spent a penny of it. Next year it will be we have £150mill to spend and yet none of it will be spent. Either Wenger doesnt want to spend or the board is lying to us, its one or the other. I dont buy this crap that there is no value in the market...fact is we spent and wasted too much time concentrating on Suarez, only to lose Higuain to Napoli for £32mill..even though i dont think hes worth that much imho but we should have just offered £35mill and be done with it.

Not happy at the moment:(

In all fairness, Oscar was incredible on FM before he moved to Chelsea. If Sports Interactive can work out how good he is, surely Utd could have paid a scout or two to do the same?

(I am NOT saying that people should base how good players are on FM, merely that as SI managed to do it, so should football clubs!)

I wonder if we could somehow prise Schweinsteiger out of Bayern's heavily stocked midfield.

That would be so awesome. :(

Or Kroos.

Paulinho and Fernandinho are both box to box mids, Paulinho imo is clearly better. They aren't natural holding players and are a lot better at going forward, much like Yaya Toure. I would put Paulinho at a similar level to Toure, Fernandinho on the other hand isnt as good from what I have seen but he should be a lot better than Barry.

Oscar plays a different role he is more an attacking mid, in a 4231 system for both club and country. He's a really good player, again I think he's better than Fernandinho as a player even though they play different roles and are hard to directly compare.

If I had to choose it would be a close call between Oscar and Paulinho as to which is the best.

Aside from Fabregas and before that Thiago, have we actually been linked with any midfielders?!

I know there were reports a couple of weeks ago that we'd contacted RM about Modric, but other than that...

I think we might go for Modric should our Fabregas bid fail (which looks pretty likely at the minute). He's PL 'tested' if Moyes cares so much about that.

Fellaini has been linked to us by the press since he scored the goal that saw Everton beat us last season, and a bit more since Moyes became our manager, but there's nothing solid there at all that I can see.

The only other player I can think of that we've been linked to (barely) is Cabaye, and I don't think he's the answer.

From what I've seen of Paul he's light years ahead of clev and dare I say Carrick
