Hiya all,
Need the best i can get for gaming with a budget of £350-370.
Sole use is for gaming.
Intel or AMD(i suppose AMD would be cheaper) I've got gpu 6950 which i'll flash to 6970 is possible, either way it'll be upgraded when i can.
Got a mouse, keyboard and monitor.
want new so no MM or other secondhand sites please.
Thanks guys for any help.

3570k scores 7k, worse than the AMD

The performance varies a lot depending on the game. Starcraft 2 for example would do far better on the 3570K.

The 3570K is fine, but there's no upgrade option. I'd be reluctant to spend out on new hardware that can't be upgraded, when something a lot cheaper would do as well for just about everything.

Yeah you could use your Piledriver build and spend more money cooling and oc'ing if you wanted to.

And that means what, in terms of gaming? I would still have the 3570k over the 8320.

Me too bud, I will +1 your suggestion.

TTL did a review of a Bitfenix Prodigy system with an OC'd i5K and a 7870LE. It beat an All AMD rig with an OC'd 8350 and the 7970. When you consider the 8350 uses more power at stock than an OC'd Ivy i5K and the fact the Tahiti 7870LE (lightened 7950) is MUCH cheaper it really is an eye opener

It really depends on the games. If you're talking recent console-type games, the FX chips have no problems keeping up with the i5s, sometimes ahead too.

Can I ask why you have the 4770K and not the 8320/8350 then? ;)

I'm not a fanboy fella infact I still have an AMD Phenom II setup for HTPC use. Way back in the day it was heavily rumoured that Bulldozer would be a drop in upgrade for the AM2+/AM3 socket. Long story short I was screwed over as you needed the 900 chipset or a new AM3+ mobo, so I've learned not to expect too much from AMD :P

That said I'm happy to recommend their Trinity/Richland FM2 platform for a cheap general use home PCs as the IGP is great (they are using a modded version for the next gen consoles). The only time I'd really recommend an 8320 is if it's a CPU drop in upgrade.

As my system isn't just for gaming :) I've got a 4670K too!

The AM3+ 970/990 boards are guaranteed for the next gen and the one after that. So for a relatively cheap processor like this (which will do really well for almost all games), there's a good upgrade option down the line too.

I'd personally generally go for Haswell over the current FX series for gaming (unless someone specifically wants to play games that run brilliantly on the FX CPUs, like BF3/BF4 and Crysis 3), but not Ivy Bridge.

Cheers for the help so far guys,
I'd love an I5 system, but it's the no upgrade route that's causing me the headaches at the moment.
Are the fx 6300 any good? Games I'm looking at playing are stuff like bf3-4 when it's out, dayz and arma 3 amongst others.
A solid upgrade path is what I'm looking for most.

Bulldozer or "Faildozer" as it was nicknamed was a flop anyway. That's what I mean by not expecting much from AMD, we have no idea what the performance of Steamroller will be. You see in most threads people tend to have their setup for a good 3 years or so before upgrading and then it tends to be a new mobo bundle purchased. Of course there are always "Tech junkies" who have to play with the newest kit ;)

Haswell has amazing power saving features and is say around 200Mhz ahead clock for clock over Ivy. Anyone on a 1155 system already won't feel the need to upgrade. Where Intel have "dropped the ball" is the poor TIM under the IHS which is why we see people de-lidding the CPU to improve temps for overclocking.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £185.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £60.00

That saves some cash over my buddies spec as the mobo is B grade, he might need some sata cables though. That £30 saved could pay for a heatsink to OC. A good Haswell spec will be overbudget.......
