Poundland Girl Wins Forced Labour Ruling

More good news.

We did it!

Iain Duncan Smith will be held to account for his misuse of Government statistics.

Last month Iain Duncan Smith told journalists that one million people are claiming benefits yet able to work. The problem was it wasn't strictly true.

That's why 96,666 people -- including you -- signed the petition to demand the Work and Pensions Committee to hold Iain Duncan Smith to account for his use of government statistics on welfare.

This week the Committee announced they would do just that. Iain Duncan Smith will face questions by the Committee over his department's use of statistics. The New Statesman reported the story here.

The DWP have slipped the news out quietly, so if you are on Twitter please take a moment to spread the word about the victory.

We are really proud that we started this petition. It's often feels like politicians get away with saying whatever they like and as two disabled people affected by the benefit changes, we're fed up with the spin. By starting this petition we've shown that everyone has the tools to call politicians out if they start spinning statistics.

It's important people know this - so please share the news on Twitter. Click here.

The inquiry is set to happen in June so we'll keep the petition open until then. We both hope to attend the session and see Iain Duncan Smith face some tough questions. We'll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime - a big thank you for all your support!

Thank you,
Jayne Linney & Debbie Sayers

No one cares anymore spankingtexan. Today's fish & chip paper and all that...

There may be people on here who don't really care but there are lots of people who do care and I've posted here for those who may still be interested in the case. The Government still feel it necessary to appeal the high courts decision even though they already introduced retro legislation, must be playing on their conscience.

Is this really becoming the spankingtexan version of the Biohazard Scottish Independence(tm) RSS thread?

I don't and haven't started any threads on that topic actually.

That I mop up the general standing hatred and moronic opinion over that and Scotland is neither here nor there.

If spankantexan wants to talk poundland, let him. You don't have to click on the thread. :)

Having just read the linked article, I very much care. IDS is a loathsome individual, and the amount of power he has given himself is truly worrying.

I hope the courts can send him and his legislation packing.

Hewlett Packard joins workfare:-

the government announced that three more large companies – Hewlett-Packard, Airbus and Center Parcs – are keen to be part of the scheme, plus over 200 small and medium-sized firms.

Makes hundreds redundant:-

Waiting for the smart ass "correlation != causation" comments etc.

Maybe it's because they are recruiting grads at the expense of the incumbent workforce - a conversation with a senior manager went along the lines of "The Union has got it all wrong - we're not replacing workers with grads because they are cheaper but because they are younger". Oh, that's totally ok then!

Hehe MORNING STAR. comrade ! Not a too biased article.

EVERYONE knows this is a government funded cheap labour scheme, it is undeniable.
Id recruit, sorry offer a placement, AND be Paid by the state to take them and sack my unskilled workforce in a heartbeat if it saved me money.

I start my MWA tomorrow, I protested when my advisor said she was putting me on it, and she just told me the typical stuff, it's mandatory, doesn't matter what you want, loss of benefits etc.

The worst thing about it is I am not even going to a charity shop but a non-profit organization I don't even know the name of, all I know is where to go and who to see. MWA is a tricky situation to fight your way out of and I can't even begin to try if I don't even know who I am to be working for.

All I know is I am going to Portsmouth Football stadium to do maintenance work, a football club that raised money last year for a cancer charity and still hasn't paid the raised money. So right off the bat I have an ethical problem with the place I am to work.

No that's not the case.

The company that owned Portsmouth went into administration last year, in April this year it was purchased by the Portsmouth FC supporters trust.

A not for profit organisation, and not the same entity that owned the club last year, and not the same entity that has shafted any charities.

A 30 second Google would tell you this, and set your mind at rest that your valuable time spent sweeping up over the next two weeks isn't lining the pocket of a child killing toff.
