Certain Supermarket that I work for has Underpaid Me

I need advice from you experienced folks on here, and this is very serious for me and I dont know what to do, Its a large amount of money to me, around the £700-£800 mark, (not including the 150-200 tax return then need to give me )


Let me give a bit of aback story, Started my job at this big chained supermarket in June, Just missed the pay day, so due to the "cut off" date they have for the monthly wages, I would only get 3 weeks worth of wages, which was £900, with a few overtime shifts + training I was happy. (I work nights)

Now during last month pay week, my clock in card was accidentally put in my washing machine, I told my manager this, and he said he will sort it, but for the mean time, I had to fill in this form every time I would come into work.

I have been told by many people, In fact most of the night team have been underpaid many times before. They Advised me to write down every shift that I do, and what day/date. I also stay behind and help get the job done while everyone goes home, tats a minimum of 30 minutes to 2 hours sometimes. I have calculated Just for my 6 overtime shifts that I stayed back 4 hours in total. Not counting the times I stay back during my contracted hours also.

Now I just had a look on my payslip online, which I can do a day before I get paid, and I am expecting to be paid £845 after tax. Also the payslip is extremely confusing, it doesn't tell you how many hours you have worked.

So basically My last month of wages, where I did not work NO WAY NEAR as much as I did this month, I got £900, that was 3 weeks of pay, This month With the full 4 weeks, (Cut of date is 8 days before payday) I got £845.

What Can I Do, I wrote down all the hours that I did for them on a piece of paper, also telling them how much in total of hours that I did after breaks, how many minutes or hours I stayed behind just on those overtime shifts.

What can I do and where do i stand legally, Oh forgot to mention when other people ask about there money, they say "they will gointo your next month wages" and it never does. I need this solved asap, I havent had a talk with the HR department yet, I jus texted my night manager, saying I aint doing no more overtime shifts, staying back none of that until my pay gets sorted.

It may have been a mistake.

Its best to talk to them before going to outside consulants. It happened to me before (only a matter of £70 though) but i had it paid to me within the day.

That Is ANOTHER THING, the hourly pay rate, is CONFUSING TOO,

I have basic bog standard £7.329 per hour or something similar, however I never get this rate because I have two night premuims

When I start my shift at 10, I get a pay boost of £1.40 up until 12:00 then from 12:00 to 6:00 I get another £1.something pay boost.
 
ask your supervisor or manager if they can explain your payslip to you. do not ask a colleague as this generally causes more issues that it solves with 2nd hand info.
 
Over 25 years ago I used to work nightshift in a major supermarket. It was pretty much a given that we would stay behind to finish up after our shifts ended.We never got paid for that either.
I was young and stupid back then, and thought that was the norm as pretty much everyone did it.
Its very easy to wrack up extra hours with no pay working in a supermarket...

Managers have said I get paid for staying back. on the other hand the employees say you dont....
 
The thing was, you had to look keen to progress, and putting the hours in was how it was done.I ended up as nightshift manager.Complaining was considered 'rocking the boat' This was back in the '80's though.
These days its probably different, so yes, get on to HR (or whatever they call it now) and sort it out.If you have it all down on paper, and the extra hours were sanctioned by management then there shouldn't be a problem.

You are presumably on PAYE, in which case HMRC tends to do a good job of letting you know if you owe or are due more tax, in the case of the later they will send you a cheque for the overpaid difference.
 
First off, did you actually give all your hours that you had written down in to HR/payroll?

Secondly, have you yourself, not leaving it to your manager, requested a new clocking in/out card yet?

Don't take your colleagues words for it they don't get paid the money in the next month.
 
When I worked for supermarkets many moons ago, we used to have a word for getting paid properly and on time without giving payroll an earbashing.

A ****ing miracle.

Keep track of every penny they owe you and talk to payroll in advance of payday to ensure they have it right. Often retail managers don't authorise overtime saying "oh I forgot" hoping people wont notice and it'll save the budget.

And get in a union, you'll need it at some point.

Not really, when I worked in a supermarket I didn't stay a minute past my shift, I worked hard on shift and got everything done.

Anything else needs doing? Manager can hire more staff, cost of business, they were reluctant to try and ******** me into staying because my performance on shift was much more than anyone else on the department, the few times they asked me to stay on for no money I threatened to slow right down to the pace everyone else worked at and get the union involved and they backed off.

Never stay a minute late if I'm not being paid, it's the same with every job I've had.

He works for tesco though :)

Have a word with your manager,perhaps he hasn't coded the overtime correctly,ask him to see your t&a and that will show all the hours you worked,sit down and get them to show you how the payslip works,ive been at Tesco for 15 years so know all about coding and payslips.

Get them to explain everything and im quite sure that if there in the wrong your entitled to your owed money within 24 hours from the cash office,on the few times mine has been wrong ive always got it within a day.
