building an Prodigy case based ITX gaming PC and looking at which graphics card to put in it...

i am looking for something around the £300 - £350 price tag ish, I have seen 7970s range from the VTX3D 7970 at £300 to the Gigabyte windforce 3x at £430! I know there are always a bit of a range of prices .. but the Asus Matrix Ed is £399.. so i am a bit confused what makes the gigabyte so much more expensive??

also wondering if the cheaper VTX3D card still comes with the free games bundle?



as for the Geforce i have always run ATi so not really sure which if something like the 770 is any better?

7970 and 770 gives you about the same performance... for 1 monitor/tv the extra 1Gb that the 7970 has doesn't give any advantage.

So would be up to you to decide about coolers, price and free stuff.

in my opnion you should get a HD 7950 or a GTX 670.

What resolution will you be playing?

He's not wrong though...the extra 1GB vram won't make any difference at the moment...it is the memory bandwidth that does (which the 256-bit memory bus fall short on).

But for many people, graphic card that's not Nvidia don't make sense regardless of price or spec...

Strictly from value point of view:
I wouldn't recommend the GTX770 over the 7970 right now because of it being more expensive by £30-£40 over the Sapphire 7970 GHz Edition at this moment; however if it was between the £200 GTX670 and the £250 7950, I would actually recommend the GTX670 because it is actually better value (£50 cheaper) despite it is lacking on memory bandwidth and vram area.

haha! gotta love a bit of a scrap over whats needed or better! :-D

It'll be running at 1080p either on a normal monitor or on a HD projector. so getting the most out of the card is important on a 120" screen!

that Vapor-X looks awesome.. i didnt even see that one come up. so the AMD free games thing is stopping now? i thought they had just started a new one :\

For me the keywords there are 'at the moment', which were't in the original. I'm convinced BF4 ultra will want >2GB for best performance.

Not NOW no, but soon, if you want the games get it quick.

I think its more a case of people have 670's and 680's and some posts give the impression that the 670 or 680 are a lot slower than a 7950 and 7970 because of the 256bit bus, This is not the case as of right now, in the future though who knows.

I use a 670, im more than happy with it, even with its measly 1189mhz core. , yet i am still recommending 7950's and 7970's when the value is there.

The Vapor-X is very cool and quiet. Better than than the HIS in my opinion.
