At what age does one become middle aged?

If you onliy live until you are 40, then 20 is middle aged. I'm 48, and I seriously doubt I will make it to 96 (why would I want to!) so I am well past middle age IMO...

I've known some people in their 90s who have lives they enjoy. I work in a bingo club, so I see a lot of elderly people in the afternoons. Bingo isn't all old ladies with blue rinses nowadays, not by a long chalk (we have bookfulls of paper records showing due diligence for thousands of people we've asked for proof of being over 18), but morning and afternoon in a city centre bingo club is popular with a lot of older people. There aren't many over 90, but there are some.

I think that sums it up, although I wouldn't class myself as middle aged quite yet.

This is the best response, it very much is a state of mind rather than an age imo.

Wise words, I just turned 46 in July so I believe it is 47 but I also believe with modern health standards it moves up by 1 year per year.

In that case I'd better start queuing outside the post office now, to be first at the pension counter for Monday Morning. :( :p

I agree. 80 will do me thanks, so I'll stick around until 2046.

I feel middle aged at 23. I prefer to stay in on the weekends, I complain about kids and I often use the phrase "Back in my day."

Probably age 40. I will be 35 next month, and below pic is the reason why I'll object to being 35. It's because I'll be ticking the next box!

Middle agedness is a state of mind. Having had the pleasure of meeting with you, I think I could go out drinking and misbehaving with you most nights of the week.

:) Any time!

I was at a 40th birthday party last night and whilst there was a fair bit of dad dancing going on (not me, I was throwing my most impressive moves) it was pretty lively.

I know people who are 25 and seem older than friends who are 45.

I'm 49 and having a better time now than I did when I was young - life is what you make it, and with age comes the realisation that you really don't need to give a damn about what other people think - just get out and enjoy life.

Middle aged is 40-60 then its OAP age!!! :)

They say life begins at 40, I dont buy it??

Life ends at 40 and then, begins the realisation that the past 40 years have been a total bull.... and failure. So all you have left is, fast cars, cheap women, model railways, saying "In my day" and lots of booze .... lol  BUT!!!

The ability to be able to dance is now defunct from your bodies abilities!!! :p
