Did lifting change your mentality?

I see this quite often people who've started lifting seriously saying it has made them a much stronger person mentally as well as physically. Has it given you a more positive outlook on life? I've seen people go as far as to say it has completely turned their life around taking them from socially awkward, forever alone bedroom dwellers to confident, alpha, poon smashers.

I have noticed I am even more awesome than the humans who clutter up my office. :D

your bound to gain some confidence and be happy about your self when you start to see the changes.

just don't turn into a prat who keeps going on about how much he can lift

St. Thomas Aquinas once said; "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible." Replace "faith" with "gainz" and I think you're pretty much there ;)

I think it depends on where you're coming from before you got into training.

Some people are very organized/disciplined to start with and their mentality may be virtually unchanged after getting into training.

Some people (like me :o) often need a kick up the arse to get moving or organized and I've found that getting into a consistent training/eating pattern can have a massive effect on general mentality/positivity etc.

Of course, it can go **** up and you end being a boring, arrogant wannabe training guru with no room in your mind for anything else... I'm not hench enough to be that guy yet. Perhaps in a few months :D

I would say that it has changed me, for the better.

I went to the gym to aid recovery after a few operations so my mental state was quite low but now I love going to the gym, getting happy with how I look I feel I have more confidence and have met plenty of new friends and a gf along the way.

yea me to I did power and strength training for like a year with my own free weights then for some reason got tired of doing it :(

That was like 3 years ago, I bought a bike recently to lose weight (that came when I stopped lifting) and it's going really well so far and my diet is super awesome for the last few weeks so I believe I've finally achieved the mental state needed to be fit and strong for life.

I don't want to be massive now though so will try and get something like a cycling sprinters build.

hopefully at 32 It's not to late for me to get a decent body before I start to get old and loose

I guess the gains to get that sort of build are a lot harder than just power lifting and adding mass

Good stuff mate, best of luck with that :)
And no, you're not too old and it's nowhere near too late :p

It's hard to get into the routine at first.
Personally, I find the eating side of things to be most difficult aspect, and I still don't eat enough despite having loads of chicken/turkey/meat etc in the freezer plus sacks of rice and stuff... Not cool when you're a bit of a hard gainer.
The actual weight training is the fun and easy bit.

In all honesty, I've dropped the ball big time over the last few weeks and have just lost the rhythm (and dem gainz..). It's why I'm spending more time in this section looking for inspiration :)

I imagine with age it gets harder though.
your testosterone levels naturally lower with age etc
Although I've heard if you've had muscles before it's easier to get back to that size which could be utter BS?

Muscle memory, as for lower test well you can always fix that ;)
