AMD Hawaii will be priced below US $600

Article states a PRICE of US$600 not a COST.

Assuming for a second $600 is the correct retail price there is no way the cost of this card is $600 to any retailer.

The cost to the retailer will be less than $600 with a RRP of $600. What margin a retailer makes on it is up to them.

I am not debating OcUK pricing in the slightest, have no desire to. It is, however, VERY misinformative to refer to the expected price point as the cost price to the retailer. This is absolutely not the case.

What I don't understand is how companies can afford to sell these things in places like India where the cost of making them probably is more than what they sell for.

Be great if they come in at $550 for a 9970 and beat titan :)

The 780 is $650 US and can be had for £500 over here so should mean we might get 9970 for around £400 with free games.

As other have mentioned the 7990 has been going for around £500 lately so no reason why the 9970 couldn't come in at low price.

It's new therefore it will cost plenty.

Do not be under any illusions.

Remember the 580 killer that everyone was talking the 6970 up to be?

AMD don't do big expensive die's. This wont trouble a Titan, might match the 780 when pushed hard.

I wish graphics card manufacturers would have as an option to be able to buy the cards without "the free games" for the lowest price possible.

How come other companies manage to stay afloat then and sell cards £50 cheaper than here?

Probably desperation to sell a high end product and gain some traction with it. Some companies do well at selling certain products, some they dont. There are products we sell 100s of that a competitor may sell 1000s of. It just so happens that we can sell on some products X amount more and still sell for a little more. The market dictates what we sell and how much for and as has been pointed out by others in this thread, why would a company sell for less?

Ideal for winter too judging by the size of it. They might have a decent cooler ready for it though.

If those leaks a few months back are anything to go by the ref cooler will be the same as a 7990, albeit with two fans rather then three

Why should it even cost £450?

The 7970's were £365 at launch, why should its replacement be over £400inc ?

If they do launch over £450, expect them to be sub £400 within 6 months.

Seems to be the way amd do things lately, start high, cash in on those that can't wait, slash prices a few months later. If they do retail at say £450, I would expect them closer to £400 by xmas.

Don't believe a word of it tbh, I think it's just purely greed to make as much profit as possible, not that I disagree with that from a company perspective but for consumers it's bad.

The 7970's were not £365 at launch in the uk. Nowhere near it. I got 1 of the cheapest on launch day (from a competitor) who mistakenly had it priced at £416 for a very short period before it went back up to £435. Asus and at least 1 other brand were £475-£525 i believe.

I checked my invoice, £365inc for 3 XFX reference cards in Jan and I bought a 4th at £299inc when one of them blew during May 2012.

£365 including vat?

At launch the 7970's were all priced at over £400 (some substantially more than that).

As I say - i got mines from a competitor who mispriced. Powercolor - it was £354.71 excluding vat. This was on the 9th January 2012. And i guarantee you i checked every retailer prior to ordering. That was the cheapest by at least £20.
