can you boil an egg?

i put the egg in cold water and wack the gas on. got up to 8 minutes and water was bubbling (scary) and i took out and put in egg cup.
took top off egg of and its like water

i had my soldiers lined up ready as well:mad:

Water does tend to bubble when it's boiling, don't be scared - it's all perfectly normal. Make sure you don't fill the pan too high or some of the bubbles may cause splashing, which will hurt if the boiling water comes into contact with your skin.

Anyways, that's how I'd boil an egg - boil the water first, put the egg in, leave for 4 minutes (for soft boiled), remove from heat, remove egg with a spoon onto some kitchen paper to dry it before putting in an egg cup.

For some reason the last few times I've tried its been a massive fail. Either I wasn't boiled enough or I struggle getting the shell off, it just comes off in small bits

the way i do it:

cold water into pan
put in eggs
as soon as water boils, turn off the hob
the residual heat cooks the egg to the correct softness

(works for me on electric hobs)

I also like this method, leaves a larger margin for error timewise.

I also like cracking the egg into a frying pan. :)
