Happiness

Reminds me of an article of read recently. Nurses were quoting the final words of their patients, most claimed that they wished they would have worked less and enjoyed life more while they could (the dying patients, that is, not the nurses! :D)

If you're working long hours and are miserable, and are pretty sure the two correlate, maybe this is worth taking more seriously.

Yes and I did. Much happier in life, and i reckon i put a good few yrs on my life as a result.

There's a lot of a-holes to deal with in London. I don't have to deal with them anymore. Even though its been 10yrs since taking off from the place. I still everyday love the sun, heat, & vibe of the place I live. Tourist destinations are good places to live, because a.\ they're typically sunny, and when the sun is out, everyone is in a good mood. 2.\ when people are on holiday, they're a lot more relaxed and happy, and easier to talk to. Even though I'm in full time employment, i still have a far more stress free life than i did in England, and it was good in terms of living for me.

There's a whole world out there.

It is possible. You can 'jump ship' and move to another country. But it's not an instant fix. It takes time and planning.

Me and my wife will be moving over to Istanbul. But it will take careful planning, and realistically I can't see it happening until about three years' time.

When you move to another place - or want to - there will be a load of people telling you why you CAN'T do it. Just ignore them and get on with it.

^^^ what's better in Turkey than here?

If its for hot weather then there are plenty of other better places. Personally speaking, hot weather gets old, FAST.

Who would've thought that you'd be happy in a sunny place, lounging about without a worry in the world and miserable when back at a place working for the man that you're probably going to be doing for the rest of your life, huh?

It's more than holiday blues imo, London is a pretty depressing place - even if you're earning £50k a year you can't afford a decent house. I'd love to up sticks and move - France, USA, the Far East, the Middle East, hell I'd even settle for the North of England but it's not easy. It's unlikely anything will fall into your lap that's for sure.

I think Lysander's partner is Turkish but Instanbul would not be a life choice I'd make.

Anyway Gustove, don't get so down! A good looking lesbian like you will always land on her feet :)

Holiday blues!

I've had the same from getting back from the likes of Vegas, Toronto, New York, Rome, you name it ... Yes, they all seem a hell of a lot more appealing than being here.

There is more to the Uk than the rat race in London. Move North, that 1.4 million pound house you just sold would have cost 200,000 up North.

That is madness. So a man earning a good salary like £50k could not have a decent house in London? Then again how do you define 'decent'?

I find the reality of most holiday destinations such as the one you describe is that decent paying jobs are in short supply and the novelty of peace and quiet can turn into boredom.

That said, I understand what you mean about the weather, I've lived in California for 3 years now and not for one single moment have I ever thought "Oh I wouldn't mind some drizzle or cloud cover right now". There is a lot that I miss about London though which is one of, if not the best city in the world for many reasons.

It's worth noting too though that we still go away somewhere when we have holidays, usually to the desert, Vegas, Palm Springs etc. In terms of relaxation being somewhere different and away from home and work plays as much a factor as does the location.
