*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

the whole iphone argument doesn't work for consoles, iphones are for clueless buyer's, the fact you can buy an arguably better phone for 1/3rd of the price tells you that.

iphones sell due to the massive hype train of the ipod, everyone bought an ipod, so now everyone buys an iphone.

i dont understand how selling out would make people buy more.

imo if it sold out and people were left waiting and there's xbox's sitting there on the shelves for a few quid more, im pretty sure they would ditch waiting and just get an xbox.

therefore if i was sony, i would want to manufacture as many as i could as quickly as i could, to ensure the majority of the market was satisfied.

thing is sony have been overwhelmed with demand, due to being the better console at the cheaper price. to me that means they genuinely cannot meet demand no matter what. this console should smash previous sales records you would think, if sony can manufacture them quick enough.

Off topic but only clueless people think they can get something better for 1/3 of the price off an iphone, more senseless ramblings off a madman.

IPhones and HTCs.........?!?!?!?!?!

You whine about this thread being off topic yet you keep pulling it off topic again once it's back on track...

I would pre order the console at a number of the larger chains and hopefully at least 1 will have enough stock.

If Amazon can't guarantee day 1 I can't see you getting 1 from Game
From what I'm hearing on assorted gaming & tech podcasts, it does sound like this cut-off for big online retailers is to ensure that there will be decent stocks available for the all-important "queuing at the shops" part of the marketing campaign. You can't underestimate how important that bit of the new tech 'buzz' is. Apple -- love them or loathe them! -- prove this repeatedly.

So if getting hold of one before Xmas is "important", it would make sense to reserve one at a bricks & mortar store if you can, even if that means doing the whole queuing at midnight thing with the great unwashed nerdy masses.

I forked out £20 for as Asda pre-order and I'm not sure whether there'll be a "collect at store" option. I'm hoping not. I want the relative anonymity of a harassed delivery van with 200 identical boxes to deliver.

Mind you, the only thing I'm interested in at this stage is Drive Club, so I'm still not entirely sure why I'm taking a risk with version 1.0 tech. :-)

Whats OCUK preorder situation ??
After few problems with game *******s are not getting any of my money. So i will preorder at OCUK. But i am curious if stock will be here :P
But first i want Blox Intake Manifold for my integra importe d from usa :D

No store that you order from now can guarantee you'll get it on release. Sony have said that any pre-orders made after 6th August cannot be guaranteed at all.

If I was going to pre-order one right now, I'd probably go with either Sony directly via their website, or somewhere like GMG who won't have taken as many pre-orders as somewhere like Amazon, Tesco etc.

You can only really increase the likelihood of getting one on release though, I doubt anywhere can explicitly guarantee one at this point. Hell, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if some pre-orders from before the 6th of August can't be fulfilled.

Davey_Pitch thing is with ocuk You pay 350f up front. Its like proper preorder. Thats the reason i have no preordered yet... Pomped 3k to speed up paying my car loan off in last 4 month thats why i wont have spare 350f till next month :(

Based on track record so far it wouldn't surprise me. I think Xbox is on first again so Sony will have a chance to quickly fine tune whatever they have to say again. You'd have thought the MS PR folks would have learned their lesson by now :/

I also wondered (and it's based on nothing but my imagination) if MS have decided to reduce the number of launch countries so they could have enough stock to actually release the console earlier than they planned. Maybe they were aiming at a mid/end November launch, but knowing how Sony have trumped them already, they've cut back on the launch markets to make sure they have enough stock to release it right at the beginning of November.

Like I said, that's based on no evidence already, but I certainly wouldn't put it past MS (or any company for that matter) to use a tactic like that.

TBH I was all set to get a PS4 even got a pre order for a launch day PS4 but thinking about it all now. Think I'll cancel and wait.

Its not that I think the console is poor value but at the moment PC gaming really is giving me all I need and the PS3 fills in the gaps at the moment.

GT6 will do me for a while, and last of us was enough, rest at the moment is via Steam on the PC.

I'll think it over a bit more, but for me next gen makes little sense at the moment. If it wan't for my gaming rig I'd buy a PS4 with little thought but due to Steam games, I'll consider if I really do need a PS4 right now.

In case anyone hasn't seen this, found a video with a brief size comparison between the PS4 and PS3 Slim (2:30 if you don't want to sit through the whole thing):
