Ok, get the 26-27" out of your head, you'll be very hard pushed to find a set of sizes other than 25, 28 or 32.
The sound is going to be every subjective, so go test some yourself.
Hannspree actually do some decent 1080p TV's. I have three 25" ST251 sets and the sound is good. But they will have been superceded now as they are 3 years old, but still very good. Vertical viewing angle not great though.
In all seriousness though, if you can find a Freeview HD receiver where the audio output is controlled by the remote control, you'd do a lot worse than a Dell 24" UltraSharp and the AX510 soundbar that clips neatly underneath it. Full HD IPS panel, swivel stand etc.
26" TVs are still available, although looking on Richer Sounds it seems they're being surpassed by 27". I've never seen any 28" LCD TVs.

- Could be too weak)Yeh, as I said though, my fear about that is it's more of a monitor than a TV and has none of the processing a regular tv would. eg: Look at the "LG 26" LN450B" and note all the picture processing it has mentioned, all aimed at making regular TV look better. I suspect the 27MS53V doesn't have it.
your clueless.
monitors are better because they have less features, the whole budget goes on the panel and nothing else and the panel is the most important aspect of a tv.
the less processing the more natural the picture which means better PQ.
so it depends on your feeds, if they are high quality inputs the monitor will really shine, if they are crap then the processing comes into play, but then i don't see why you would be bothered about PQ if your inputs are crap.
Most of the rest of the stuff we watch is through a scart lead showing a digisender Sky image.
for all the same reasons i have everything turned off on my GT50.
i have the light sensor off, dynamic contrast off, IFC off, vivid colour off, P-NR off, clear cinema off, overscan off, etc.
more processing = less natural picture
