Thinking about selling my 7950 to fund a second hand 680 as I want Physx to be enabled in some games.

Would there be a noticeable performance increase at 1080?

Cheers

Hmm probably not worth the hassle then. Just saw how quickly the prices on 7950's dropped and thought now would be the best time to sell it for as much as I can before they drop again. Will just hold off to see what the next 6 months brings. Thanks guys.

AMD's new line of GPU'S comes out in October. Wait until then.

I went the other way because the GTX680 Lightning I had gave no noticable increase in performance over a MSI TF3 7950. I sold the GTX680 Lightning to recoup some of the expense and bought a much cheaper 7950.

GTX680 Lightning at ~1300 Core and and +554 VRAM was trading blows with my 7950 at 1200/1700. I could push the BGTX680 to ~1370 but even then the difference was only noticeable with an FPS counter displayed. I play at 2560x1600 so at 1080 the difference will be even less.

If you absoloutely wand PhysX then go for it, but be aware full GPU PhsyX does cause a ~40% performance penalty.

sensible post.

I went from a HD7950 Boost to a GTX670 FTW and didn't really see a perceivable difference in games (I was forced into the switch due to problems with WoW and the AMD driver at the time). The thing I did notice though was that PhsyX was worth the trade IMO. If you don't play a lot of PhysX games then it really won't be worth the effort of jumping, but if you do (BL2 is my 2nd most played game) the selling the HD7950 and buying a used GTX680 would be worth it IMO.

This post is sound advice. Clearly the OP wants to try PhysX and plays games that use it. You will have a bee in your bonnet over this until you do the change. :)

Sell the 7950 and get a cheap GTX680 or GTX670. The difference in price would be negligible. If you decide to go second hand make sure to go with EVGA or MSI, they both have transferable warranties.

great deal still pointless swop from a 7950 in some games the 7950 will actually be better oc.

one of reasons my mate sold his 680 gtx because in metro last light my oc 7950 was getting a lot more than his 680 :D

Defo sell the 7950 before 'waiting 6 months'! You'll get a higher price selling NOW (elsewhere) as the recent big AMD price drops are only just working their way through resellers...

And the NVIDIA deals are almost too good to be true, defo worth buying!
