*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

At the moment I want a PS4, however I have not bothered to pre-order anything, I am in no rush as I am not overly fussed with the launch games, will just wait a few months and see how things are looking maybe in Jan - Feb.

Have got so many PS3 games still to play thanks to PS+ I will probably be busy until Summer 2014 anyway, haven't played the PS3 much recently as everything was taking forever to load, had the good sense to back up my saves thank god as my HDD finally died yesterday, have popped a 500gb in today so will hopefully get back to enjoying the ps3 if thats everything loading up normally again and not waiting 10+ mins to load shadow of the colossus....

Bigger gaming community means more people online and more games devs leveraging ps4

1:1 would be far better for consumers, with both consoles competing with each other much more. If Sony have twice the market share they simply will not try as hard, they don't have to. If anything you will see software prices creep up.

Presumably as the PS4 attempts to bring very little new to the table and so we'll be stuck with a near identical console experience if PS4 leads the industry!

see now that's the thing

I have a PC that I do all my FPS gaming on, i cant do it on consoles (believe me I've tried)

so I gave up with consoles
(although i love some games on them and love the retro stuff)

My prediction is that Sony will out sell Microsoft, maybe as much as double

I never had a PS3 or PS2, but i did play on them though, but i have a PS1, and Gran Turismo kept me going for a very long time, I almost did complete it totally
To be fair I think PS3 outsold Xbox 360 pretty much everywhere other than USA and maybe UK? I could be wrong but it seems to me predicting PS4 outselling Xbox is like predicting Windows outselling OSX. ;) :)

I do most of my gaming on PC so relative graphics power between the consoles isn't much of a deal for me as they both lag massively behind my PC. What I am interested in though is console gaming moving on from a basic rinse repeat of SNES or Dreamcast just with prettier graphics. For me Xbox One seems to be trying to do more in that area so will get my launch money, if Sony push to do more I'll pick up a PS4 in a year or two.

Can you explain why you think this? I see the opposite with the indie games the PS4 is offering at launch window.

I don't think trying to explain a personal preference is going to go anywhere other than the lynch mob coming to get me. ;)

However from a personal point of view I quite liked what MS was trying to do with true digital distribution and sharing, whilst not as open as Sony for me their online live and indie environments have the right mix of control and accessibility, I prefer the integrated Live online experience, Kinect I think could prove to be interesting for voice commands, head/gesture tracking as well as bio feedback, I'd intrigued by the potential of using distributed cloud compute, Smartglass used properly by games, films and media has a lot of potential and the TV/Media integration could bring my diverse media/films/tv/photos/music/whatever together in a nice way. Not an exhaustive list and I know PS4 is very capable and more powerful, it just feels a little too "more of the same" for me, and that is of course just a personal observation, I don't expect anyone to agree with me (particularly in this thread :D )

I've been gaming since Pong and the revelation that was out family Atari 2600 woody (still love "combat" cart :) ) so I love gaming in all it's guises, I'm just looking for something different. Occulus Rift has got me VERY excited for example. Oh, and I love an underdog which when it comes to console gaming Xbox most def is :)

If I wasn't lucky enough to have the luxury of a decent PC, and the console would be my only gaming environment for the next 5 years, I may have had a different view of course.

Love that I said I wasn't going to explain myself and then promptly did, please don't throw things at me. :)

Please can someone confirm if Drive Club will have that ultra realistic penalising bull **** if you touch other cars like in GT5 and Fonza?

Been playing it each morning all week, it's nothing like GT at all in that sense, as mentioned below your post it's much more of an arcade style racer. The show floor demo is 8 stations running time trials linked to a leaderboard though, so not sure if any footage will show it too well as no-one is racing directly against other players.

Someone asked about the UI displaying all games or just recently played - from what I have seen so far it shows all games installed, but don't know ins and outs for sure. Very slick & responsive though :)

pmsl

Good question. I really dont get the hate towards either console.

No one here will benefit (financially) from one console outselling the other..

Agreed, unless you own shares in Sony/Microsoft or are on their payroll I really don't get the need for 'cheering' one Manufacturer and ****ging off another!

They're multinational global corporations at the end of the day. Not your local football team :D

Exactly I don't get fanboys, it's a console you idiots, each company only wants one thing, which is to make sure their console bleeds you dry of cash over as many years as possible.

IMO Sony still can't make a decent controller the PS4 one looks more awful than the PS3 is and I'm sure it's just as bad to use

There is nothing wrong with the playstation controller.

I have big hands and its fine to use, the Xbox controller, thats fine to use as well.

I cant think of a single situation where I've thought that the controllers of either have been awkward or uncomfortable to use.

The only thing I dislike about the current ps pad are the r2 and l2 buttons. Apart from that they're fine..... To me

Whats the verdict on the consoles these days? i've not kept up with anything since the launches.

At the moment PS4 still is the console i want for gaming as i can't stand kinect etc.

I still don't get why people are saying the controller will be rubbish. There have been LOADS of people that have used it and said it's fantastic.

Good for you, many people disagree with you though.

luckily there's no issue with the controllers anymore. happy days :) people can stop whinging about it now.

I wouldn't go that far, plus have you tried the new pad or just going off what the Internet is saying? The sticks are still in the wrong place. I'm looking forward to trying one though and seeing how it feels compared to the ps3.

The sticks seem wider apart now, and it does seem that will help. I just want to get my hands on one and see how good it really is.
