**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Well at least PSN users don't need PS+ to party chat, unlike XBL where you need a gold membership to be able to use it. ;)
Although as you tend to use it when playing multiplayer you will need to pay for PS+ with PS4, otherwise you may as well use Skype or a phone if you just want to chat to mate outside of a game and then they don't even have to be tied into having a PS4, PS4 does have Skype right? :D ;)

To be fair not sure I'd be planning to call slightly scary looking lady(?) whilst I'm trying to do my Forza thing anyway (wow, what a pants F5 make believe picture).. PS4 does have Forza 5 right?* ;)

*Just messing with ya :D

Whilst I'm doing my "RSS boy" thing it looks like MS will be using Skype technology for Xbox One party chat to improve speech quality which sounds promising

Thanks to integration with Skype’s audio codec, which has a proven track record of high-quality voice through billions of hours of use within Skype, as well as dedicated audio processing (for Xbox One conversations via Skype and multiplayer party chats), Xbox One offers higher quality voice chat with the Xbox One Chat Headset compared to Xbox 360—whether you’re chatting in-game or through party chat with Skype on Xbox One.
But the improvements don’t stop there. The Xbox One Wireless Controller’s new expansion port dramatically expands the data transfer rate between the controller and console. Combined with Skype’s audio codec, this enables crystal-clear digital audio with the Xbox One Chat Headset, both capturing and rendering speech at 24 KHz PCM, which is triple the rendering sample rate and a 50 percent capture rate improvement over Xbox 360 headsets. And, as we shared before, the Xbox One Chat Headset comes with every Xbox One console.
Blurb including demo of the difference between 360 and XO chat here -http://majornelson.com/2013/08/29/x...hardware-improvements-and-skypes-audio-codec/

Did read that MS want to bring skype to the PS4 as the Vita already uses it, i wonder if this means that it would work in game for all formats so you can have cross console in game chat if it happens? Sony is letting you cross game chat with PS Vita to PS4, so cant see why Sony would block skype from doing the same if MS allows it

But at least psn doesn't restrict it and I'm sure plenty of people party chat who aren't gaming with each other. Also don't you need gold to use Skype? ;) :p

That's a good question, I read the same thing and MS are pretty agnostic when it comes to Skype. Wonder if the hold up is more to do with Sony than MS? Perhaps they (Sony) have plans for Party chat outside gaming a bit like facetime themselves?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I am interested in the Day One Edition games Dead Rising and Forza but only come across these on the high street game store website, is it exclusive to them or are all pre orders treated as Day One Editions? Seems you can preorder on MS's website too but doesn't mention if DOE. There's at least £10 difference on prices too, might try the digital copies once launched.

What is everyone else doing for games?

Not all pre-orders are Day One Editions, you have to specifically order one of them from what I've seen, and retailers are rapidly running out of stock.
