So I just got off the phone to my Nan who said my Grand dad who has a problem with his bottom decided to google for info on the problem. He is like 87 and cant really spell the medical terms so he just googled "Bottom".

Anyway as you can imagine he got a load of adult results up which he then thought as its up he would have a bit of a look.

After a few mins supposedly the screen went red and a warning came up saying what he had been doing was illegal and they have been fined £100 by Surrey Police. It gave details that they would need to go to the post office and buy some form to pay money to some serial code. They were given 48 hours to do this before legal action would be taken and my grandad would be put on some sex register.

It then said the computer would be closed down and kept off until the fine was paid. The PC then Shut down.

My Nan rushed out to the post office and proceeded to pay this £100 "fine".

When she logged back onto the PC some website was displayed saying thank you for paying the fine and no further action would be taken.

This was 3 weeks ago and I have only just found out :/

This is a scam right?

Im guessing his computer must be hacked for them to shut it down and wouldn't be safe using online banking etc?

Yes, it's definitely a scam.

Go clean their PC up, format etc cause it'll definitely still be sat there.

Thought as much thanks.

Cant go wipe it myself as live in Germany but they pay some PC to come round and do things like this so hopefully he will agree it needs a good format to be safe. Ive advised not to use any internet banking until then.

It is a good scam. It uses your IP to work out which police to list and even uses their website to get images which look official. The post office bit is to get less traceable payment. The payment is normally paysafecard or Ukash. They are traceable but less so than normal bank type payments.

This reminds me of the awkward conversations i have with my dad about computer viruses. Whenever i see him, he always has a story to tell about some new virus that took over his computer and how he had managed to get rid of it. I have to just nod and be impressed with his virus ridding skills, but really i just want to say " Dad....stop looking at porn so much"

Lol I say fair play if he fancied a nose around but thats not the point. He installs all these "Speed Up" or "Tune up" programs thinking it will make his pc faster but all hes doing is filling it up with rubbish. Ive told him this but he wont listen.

I bet they make quite a bit of money out of the computer illiterate and elderly. She says the only paperwork she has that anything happened is the receipt from the post office.

I just hope when I'm in my 80s I'll still want to.

If you can get it up...

Surely thought it would be the post office that benefits this scam as they'd be the one supplying the form?

It's usually card information they have to enter.

I'm sensing a troll/made up story here.
