EU May Order Speed-Limiters Fitted To UK Cars

As much as I would hate it, I can't come up with a reasoned argument why it shouldn't happen to be honest. The speed limit is the speed limit.

I was mainly interested by the number of road deaths last year in the UK compared to France and Germany. 1700 in the UK, more than twice as many in France and Germany, countries with comparable populations. I think us brits are actually pretty good drivers in general.

I suppose it would be a whole new area for the hackers to work in, charging people to remove the limiter on their cars with a hack of some kind. I don't see many people standing for it though and retro fitting it to all vehicles would be impossible.

Only when we have motorways and cars like those in films like Minority Report and I, Robot.

Until then, I think I will pass.

Actually I have a reason. Emergencies, I think you can justify breaking the speed limit if you were rushing to hospital perhaps?

A system that automatically applies the brakes to bring you down to a specific speed is inherently dangerous as it takes away control of the car from you. It's not going to happen.

It would just be similar to what's used in trucks I would imagine.

From what I know of how easy it is to break into ECUs, I imagine this would be trivial to circumvent, and possibly unenforceable.
